Anyone know what the real Dish/Voom deal is?

I'm really jacked off with Dish. I ordered Dish on Friday when the Voom deal was announced. I paid $300 for the HD DVR. After reading here about the second dish requirement, I called to verify and was told that yes I would need a second dish and that was an extra $100. So, they intended to...

Ten Million HDTV's in U.S. homes!!! And VOOM only got 40,000 subscribers

The biggest reason was that Voom was poorly promoted. The only people I knew who knew of Voom were the ones I told! Compare that to D*, for example, where every road I drive down has dealers advertising installs, etc and every time I open my mail box to find D* and E* promotions stuffed in.

INSTALLERS NOTiFIED TO SEND BACK RECEIVERS

I got a call from last week from the company that installed my Voom offering to install DirecTv. This is the type of proactive marketing that Voom should have been doing :shocked

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

I go even further: the dish on my wall is now useless, so I expect Voom to remove it along with their box. It is just not good enough to ask me to return the box--even in a prepaid box--but leave me having to pay an installer to come out to remove the dish and repair the holes through my walls...

"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

Thanks for that explanation. It no longer happens, so is unfortunately moot. I don;t think it was the latter, btw, as I was always able to receive a signal. It usually seemed to happen when I switched it on. Perhaps they never fixed it, and I just saw it happen because I no longer switch it off...

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

Can you add a group that believes Voom should pick their equipment up--box and dish--and repair the holes they leave though the customer's external wall, as they decided to close the business? I am aghast that Voom think I should go to my own time and trouble to return their box, but leave...

"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

Well, I certainly do. It's difficult to announce yourself the "technology leader" when you don't have something so basic as DVR (especially when you continue to fail to hit delivery dates on it and no-one ever saw it). However, it probbaly falls behind: 1. Lack of visibility - most people...

"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

It is just breathtakingly incompetent for Voom never to have released a DVR. How hard can it be, given that D, E and cable all have them? I was about to cancel my Voom because of it, until I heard they beat me to it. I don't think they were anywhere near close to releasing it, as they...

INSTALLERS NOTiFIED TO SEND BACK RECEIVERS

Was there anything in our original agreement that requires us to return them? What I mean by that, is that I don't want to have to go through the trouble of packing it up, driving to the Post Office and waiting in line for ages. I don't really see why I should. I have paid good money for the...

just got of the phone with a csr

I will not accept receiving a postage-paid. If they think I'm going to stand in line for 30 minutes at my local Post Office, they're in for an unpleasant surprise. No, they need someone to come and pick it up and take the dish down, repairing any unsightly holes they leave. I paid good money for...

    Starship Troopers!!

I thought it was a great movie. Really funny, especially the line, "The army made me the man I am today" as he spins around to reveal his missing limbs. Bad taste, I suppose, but funny nontheless :)

E-mail from Voom - Official Shutdown Notice

Yeah, I don't think Voom ever really understood how important DVR was. I have both Voom and DirecTV with Tivo. I nearly always ended-up watching the SD program on Tivo just because it fit my schedule. If Voom hadn't closed down, I would have left because I can no longer live without time-shifted...

E-mail from Voom - Official Shutdown Notice

I got mine, too. I just keep hoping something will rise from the ashes, but it is looking increasingly unlikely. Still, as a mark of respect and gratitute, I won't look for a replacement service until Voom finally goes dark.

    South Florida Voom Zone!!!

I'm in West Kendall, too, and was thinking that perhaps Adelphia was the best option. Reviews of Dish say the quality is horrible, but DirecTV requires a $1000 HD DVR... so it only really leaves Adelphia by default. I'm going to wait until Voom goes dark before doing anything, in the hope...

    VOOM Web Site is DOWN!!!

So, those a**holes don't think we need the website until that date to search listings? I believe that as we are still paying--in advance--the full fee they have a duty to provide the full service until that date.

    [VOOM] Audio dropouts?

Yes, I have seen the same thing. The stereo goes mono just for half-a-second and then back. Quite irritating, but with all Voom's other problems it seems insignificant right now :(

    Considering upgrading to VaVa?

In my experience, giving something away and then charging for it creates massive customer dissatisfaction - better to charge from day one, I think, especially for what everyone expects to be a chargeable channel.

    New channels coming soon?

I am really pleased to see the addition of BBC America. That was the one remaining channel I needed to switch away from D* - without it, I may have had to drop Voom, as I wasn't prepared to pay for two services. However, I still can't as I need--and I do mean NEED--a DVR. However much I like HD...

    2 More Weeks!!

I think the "new delivery" has already started. Try watching a basketball game, for example. It drives me nuts that every play type is named after a sponsor and they continually plug them. During the baseball season, they keep panning to show members of the "crew" who conveniently have product...

    2 More Weeks!!

I can't watch live tv after using tivo (well, UltimateTv, actually). The commercials drive me nuts. Not having a DVR for Voom is the one thing making me thinking of dropping the service. I still keep my DirecTv just for that. I'd rather watch a low-def program without commercials than a...
