I hate to do this but here goes.

The CGI looks really dated now. Watched it again on TV . Don't know if they've updated it but when I looked at the trailer you can see how fake the water and smoke from the stacks look today. One of the benefits of looking at old films. Most of the time it's real.

I read a review in USA Today that said the effects / conversion was good...

I saw it in imax and I think the 2D version would have been better. It was a good 3D conversion, but it still was obviously a conversion and some scenes seemed forced perspective to give more 3D than really should have been there. There was loss of detail, the Titanic interior sets seemed to lack the detail that the 2D version had.
