If Desperado is unedited, I would be interested in DVR-ing it (my wife is interested in seeing it, having seen Once Upon A Time in Mexico in the local theater).

For those who aren't aware, Once Upon A Time in Mexico is the sequel to Desperado, which in turn is the remake of Rodriguez' student film El Mariachi. All three films are worthwhile, but actually El Mariachi is in many ways the best, since the story is not modified for commercial purposes, and it is simply amazing to see what he was able to do - in terms of effects and stunts - on a budget of a few thousand dollars.

PS Titanic and Gone With The Wind are arguably the two most popular films of all time, certainly the latter is a must-see, but only if you first DVR it and then fast forward through the commercials.

Yes commercials, not sure how much editing is done... awhile back Titanic looked stunning...

in less than 30 minutes (easter time). Monster will air Psycho and you can catch tomorrow again. Also, after Psycho, the Birds will air... Excellent classics. Watch them both on 9/1 and look for the repeat in the day time.

The listing said that it was the original 1958 The Blob, but actually the recent remake was shown. :(

( I have not seen the remake, but there was no good reason for a remake. Why not just write a different story ? You could also set it in suburbia, if that was important to what you were doing. Gee, in fact, someone did it and called it "E.T." - and surprise, it was 100 times more popular than the remake of The Blob. )

IIRC, the Criterion DVD is not anamorphic, and the commercial DVD is not as good a transfer, so this looks like a definite External Drive archive file.
BTW, this is a must see film, I'd put it in the top 50, maybe higher. One of the great acting performances ever by Anthony Hopkins. Of course, a "dark" film, not particular cheery...

Obsolete.

Ridley Scott has been trying to release his Special Edition for about 10 years, and has been blocked by a legal rights owner (sometimes when a film goes over budget, they go to special lenders for the extra money, and those guys often get some legal rights... in this case, that person did not like Blade Runner, and so for years has refused to allow any new versions).
Recently, the situation changed (I did not hear what happened), and the Special Edition will finally be released.
Basically, it is cleaned up using digital technology that did not exist when the film was made. In some places, wires can be seen, in other places, the face of a mannikin used for a scene can be seen to not be the actor's face, and so forth - all have been fixed - just as it would have been done in post-production - had the technology been available at the time.
It also includes one word of dialogue change - the original script had a mathematical error, caused by the author working too late :) - but the error caused many people to assume a plot twist that was never intended - so it has now been overdubbed digitally.
Also included are three scenes that were cut from the US releaess, but were part of the International releases.
And, an important scene is restored which was originally not included because it was lost (and was later found and restored).
I have talked several times with the guy in charge of the Special Edition, and he has very high standards, so it should be top notch.
It's going to be released theatrically in November, and to HD-DVD, Blu-Ray and DVD on December 18th (the packages will include all earlier editions, plus a couple of documentaries).

T-2 was the first film released in HD.

It was released in a Special Edition DVD that had a VC-1 (aka WMV9) MPEG4 high definition file playable on a PC (as well as a DVD-Video that was mastered from a high def master).

So, it would be especially heinous to upconvert an SD version...

T2 wasn't an upconvert... (I have the extreme edition with the WMVHD)

The Dish Network Oscreen Guide says "Nutcracker" so perhaps they did not actually get the rights to show Beatles films (they are hard to get).

That subject to change needs to be in a GIANT font, not a smaller font, as the automatic DVR schedule almost never catches this, due to NASA always being very picky about launch conditions.

If you are using a Dish DVR, and the launch is postponed one day, note that the DVR will consider the next day's HD-Net timer as unnecessary, because it is a "repeat" (since the listings will just repeat the previous day's entry).

In other words, a lot of manual babysitting is needed to get the recording.
