Democratic and Republican National Conventions (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=422829). Not that I care, but HDNET is making it available to all who want it.

There is an HDNET employee on avs saying they won't put this in the ota syndicated package. This isn't a really big deal for me because the conventions are so boring. It's nice though to see their committed to bring important events to us in HD. Alot of small little things are starting to add up against Voom. This point was made on the avs thread: HDNET is a leader in HD. I guess you could argue that so is Voom. This is a big score for HDNET.

Democratic National Convention
From the historic city of Boston, HDNews brings extensive coverage of the Democratic Party's official nomination of their candidate for the 2004 Presidential race. July 26-29th.

Just a thought- GOP stands for God's Own Politics

Why does the Democratic party choose a jackass as their mascot?

The only reason we need these conventions is to make jobs for the broadcast industry.

Mark Cuban was asked when HDNet will be on VOOM, His answer was "Never" That is too bad that two organizations so in love with HDTV yet they fight like that.

FrankJo
07-22-2004, 12:53 PM
NHK will be providing the satellite feed. Anyone can run the signal. You don't have to buy the "rights" for a political convention. They have what they call a pool feed. That way, every single network doesn't have to put their own cameras in. Of course, the big guys still have cameras on the floor with reporters, but the main 3 or 4 main cameras give everyone the same signal.

This is smart for Voom to run this. If you have Voom, there is no way you're going to watch it in SD if you have HD. And it's free for them to carry it.

I would be interested to know if they will have any correspondents at the convention covering it, or will they just be putting the HD feed from the cmaeras on the air. (I like the argueing.)

The convention looked great!! Felt like you were there! The music interludes must've had a direct feed from the sound board becasue they sounded really good. Regardless of your politics, it was great to see it look so good, sound great, and not be interrupted at all! No ads, no commentary, no 'spin' from some talking head- just pure unadulterated HD capture that allows us to see and hear everything and make up our own minds....

And I agree with a previous post- Hillary did look pretty good in HD!

I found that whole stretch seriously disturbing, and at first while I don't really care for politics in general, the HD viewing did make you feel like you were "there" staring through a window into the convention. Suddenly I felt the downside to HD, the actual "being there" feeling while old guys and old ladies started convulsing and swaying off beat to Johnny B Good nearly sent me into aniphilactic shock.

(No I am not making fun of the Democrats, as I am sure the Republication convention will be the same way)I thought it was revealing how all the commotion died to a whimper whenever the major networks broke to a commercial. Just shows how staged the whole thing was. No serious decisions get made here. Just a poorly staged media event.

It was great to watch the "real" convention without ads and in HD. I really enjoyed the HDN coverage.

Some things are done as a matter of tradition.

I think it's even scarier how unimportant it is to some people. If you don't like the political process in this country, work at changing it. Marginalizing it or poking fun at it doesn't help. This is our country, our future & our children's future.
