View Full Version : Sanctuary - Official thread

Anyone here watched the initial episodes for Sanctuary yet? It was split up into a bunch of 15 minute webisodes for distribution. You can watch them online for free, or download a higher quality for a fee:

Sanctuary Home (http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/home.php)

Put the webisodes together, and you get basically the first two hour long episodes of a cool new series, both setting up plenty of further things to explore deeper in a complete season if the show continues.

This is exactly the sort of show I want networks to pick up.

For those who've not heard of it, its got something of a fantasy "monster of the week" element to it, ala Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although our heroine and team appear to both slay and rescue their monsters.

As yet, the initial two hours available for download are all that have been filmed. Further episodes hopefully will come next year.

yay! Scifi channel has ordered a 13-episode season for Sanctuary. Production begins in March, so I'd think this means we'll see it on the air this upcoming fall. Canadian rights also seem to support that schedule.

Saw that... Amanda Tapping is leaving SGA leaving Robert Picardo to take her place... they shouldn't have replaced Weir...(Tapping was locked into a contract from what I have gathered with SGA)

long_time_DNC
10-04-2008, 10:48 AM
Hm...Nightstalker mixed with X-Files. And they moved it into SGA's slot and moved SGA to the 9pm slot.

Tapping left SGA to exec. produce/star in this? Why?

mike123abc
10-04-2008, 02:14 PM
I was not too impressed with the first show. But, I will give it a few more to see what they do with it. I may as well give it a chance since BSG and SGA are ending. Maybe having SciFi HD will not be that important next year.

KAB

That was the slowest two hours I ever sat through. I must admit Amanda Tapping looks better as a brunette. Otherwise, pretty weak, IMHO.

It's in my DVR for tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully its better than Clone Wars.

long_time_DNC
10-04-2008, 07:07 PM
Wasn't overly impressed either...I mean, gee, what do they do with witches next week...psycho-analyze them and put them in glass cages (ala Trek's "Menagerie") or just kill 'em?

TenaGoble

Sounds like a cross between "Buffy" and "Torchwood" to me.

long_time_DNC
10-05-2008, 04:59 PM
Well, considering the pilot showed us a mermaid and they mentioned werewolves (and witches coming up this Friday), I'm sure we'll see vampires at somepoint (unless that's what the "bad guy" was, which is what I'm thinking). Sounds like every weird myth (dragons, anyone?) will be fully exploited in the 13 episodes ahead.

And SGA gets cancelled...man, something is just wrong at SciFi...

Painful. Poor CG and Amanda Tapping with a fake accent. Crappy writing and characters. Predicatable--Helen to her daughter - don't go out tonight blah blah daughter goes anyway -anti climactic ending.

mike123abc

They really need to improve. Of course since they have killed all their other shows off there will be nothing else to watch soon.

Not too fake of an accent since she was born in England, lived there until three then Canada. I thought it sounded pretty mild.

long_time_DNC
10-07-2008, 11:59 AM
It was pretty mild, but considering that in 10 years on SG1 and every interview I've seen/heard with her - no British accent...

long_time_DNC
10-07-2008, 12:06 PM
Well, since SciFi only signed on for 13 episodes, that's probably as long as the show will last...and then it's the long wait for the second (and final) halves of both BSG and SGA...

Mildly fake, My Mother is British and I know an accent when I here one. It was almost New Zealandish and then the Jack the Ripper scene

Finished the 2nd episode.I did not realize this was a web cast show the first time around. 2007
Interesting The actor that played "jack the ripper" is the same guy that plays Todd the wraith in SG Atlantis. I am pretty sure that he is also playing the Bigfoot character too,but no credits list who plays bigfoot. But the voice is unmistakable.

It's on SCI-FI channel now!

If that's NOT Hell, I don't know what is!!! :D:D

Most of their stuff makes me scream with burning pain, everytime I see it, especially their CGI effects, and those stinking HUGE bugs they keep putting on the screen. My gosh, they take up 1/3 of the screen now!

Well, I try not to overly into all of the details of shows so I guess that is why I like it.

I do think the daughter is a bit over the top but over all it has only been two episodes and they are trying to build up the story line. I think the 2nd ep where they brought in the Cabal organization along with those "others" that was mentioned by Tapping's ex are the beginnings of what they are leading into..

I say give it a try and then make your own determinations if you like it or not.

you need to approach it as a graphic novel aka Comic Book sort of like an under-budget Sin City.

Pretty much, yep...otherwise, you just find it pushing heavily into the totally absurd. I like some of the twisted humor...so far...

I'm on the fence. I find myself watching it and enjoying it, but easily distracted. Took me a few days to finish the pilot as I'd stop it and do something else. The girl is pretty annoying, but I agree with others that they could be just trying to establish the characters.

I must admit I am surprised...SciFi has picked it up for a second season. It has been getting a little better.

Don't forget, BSG's only coming back for 10 shows, and SG: Atlantis is ending it's run mid january. So, Sciffy doesn't have any other programming to fill in, so that's why they probably renewed this for a second season.

Kevinw

Okay, I liked "The Five". Nice background histories and further character depth and development. More to come with the A storyline, I'm sure.

The B plot was dispensable, especially since there wasn't any tie to the A plot, but my prediction at the beginning of this series is turning out to be correct - vampires and werewolves have made full appearances now...

If they do this right, they could make something out of this series... I'm still skeptical, but a bit more hopeful after seeing "The Five"...

I liked it too... ending wasn't bad either as it wasn't exactly a happy ending for a change. Though from the previews from the rest of the season, sounds like it may end up happy, so who knows ;)

I wish I had kept the season finale last year like other's have... I really did forget a lot after several mos. I can't remember why Tesla and the Druid are now both "good", but I think it had something to do with the source blood.

If they keep this erratic schedule, the show will be nothing more than filler. I hope they can run 15-20 episodes in a short time frame now. Not 9 then off again for another 9 months.

Sanctuary didn’t fare so well at 10 p.m., with just 868,000 viewers. That’s comparable to SGU‘s numbers at 9 and 10 o’clock this spring, but a far cry (39 percent, to be exact) from what Sanctuary was doing on Friday nights just three days earlier. Exactly (sadly). How do you compete with the pay scale of some guys running around the woods with an IR camera and dialogue like "Did you see/hear that?!" Plus, you have no script-writers to pay, no continuity issues...you just go to some patch of woods somewhere and say "Boo!" a lot. Compelling TV there, that's for sure...
