I would not have said this a few months ago, but I think Dish and Direct will eventually merge. With all of the new sources of providers available: cable, satellite, fiber providers, internet, ex, the monopoly argument can now be challenged. With the merger of Sirius and XM and the poor quarters by Dish, I see a merger coming around the corner within the next couple of years. I just hope that Dish doesn't run the merged company if it does happen.

Well, D* will have the new Tivo box. I don't when the 922 is coming out but the new D* Tivo is supposed to be 2nd half 2009 which probably means 12/31/2009.

it has more than a built in slingbox although it's a cool feature . two things that really stand out for me is the 4 tuners allowing you to record 4 things at once and the gui is completely in HD. something i'm very interested in.

FWIW, D* was suppose to be working on a HD GUI too. Now I read that before the Tivo box announcement was made. So that new HD GUI could be for the new D* Tivo box or the HR2x boxes or both.

hopefully for both so we can get a taste of it without having to buy yet the new tivo. they also plan on having a version of the tivo software for the hr2x-xxx series. optional of course.

Well, the end of the year is drawing near!

Looks like D* took a few baby steps yesterday, with the splitting of versus/golf, and the addition of PBS HD in a few large markets.

Nothing much going on with the E* side right now.

I am happy with Directv, but the main reason I am with them is the sports packages (NFL ticket) and I dont think I will be getting it again in the future. My contract with them expires in June 09

I dont think I would leave DTV, but I will be keeping a close eye on what Dish is doing in 09 on price and HD stuff in comaprison to Directv

Though from reading the posts, the customer service appears to be not very good at all?? and dish seems to get into many issues with channel providers??

msmith198025

Customer service is hit and miss on most of these companies, it simply seems it is more miss than hit with E* as compared to D*.

Yes, Dish tends to "negotiate" differently than most others. It can and has led to problems for the subs in the past.

Price though, if you want only HD, Dish is hard to beat

Nothing much going on with the E* side right now. Just Mpeg 2 to Mpeg 4, Very little HD locals thrown around, and maybe 7 or so new HD channels by the end of the month. as well a VS/Golf splitting, Maybe????? , Oh and we did finally get Cartoon network West. IN SD :(

IIRC seen some post though that say the channels have ended up in different HD packages. I Can't really tell because I have the top 250 pack. But same with D* you need Choice Extra or above to get VS/ or Golf Channel. My Guess is E* has VS in the top 200 pack and Golf in the top 250.

I get tired of hearing that lame excuse. How long has D11 been airborne? It should not take so long to get deals done. Malone's handwriting is all over this.

I do not think it is possible for there to be a satellite service that gives people everything they want versus what I think the satellite companies do right now, throw people a bone every once in a while in the form of new programming. I want everything at once instead of waiting. Do not get me wrong I have Dish Network and it delivers a good and sometimes great product, it just does not give you everything you want at once right away or ever. They are also not very creative either in the way of programming, their attitude should be if programming doesn't exist we'll invent it. In certain respects they are best satellite service currently available I just have this against them. There is no service of the kind I am thinking of. I mean please, come on. I have not had Direct TV since I got rid of it in 1998. These companies have too many vested interests to put out a no holds barred freakin good service. They are too much focused on their own needs to come out with an all out freakin good service.

THANKS FOR VISITING!
