With the tivo case going on, just curious. This can go both ways also (think hypothetical)
IF your DVR quit working (turned off because of a lawsuit) would you change to the other sat company? Why? Or why not?
At this point, I would (even though I have both).
My main sat company is D*, but without a DVR, I would have to change I think. There are many things I would miss, sports being the main thing, but HD channels are fairly even, nationally anyway, and the DVR is one of the main things that allows me to watch how I do.
So what about you?

If my DVR gets turned off I will save ~90 bucks a month. Can't watch TV without one. Need to get a life anyway.

i would change providers. this is a must have for me. it's made life easier watching my favorite programs when i want without being tied down to a schedule. this tivo vs E case was one of the reasons but not a huge reason why i signed up with D. just in case ;) . many are confident nothing will happen with the dvr's not listed in tivo's lawsuit but i'm not that sure anymore. i hope my 622 doesn't become just another receiver.

I might give DirecTV a try. Or Bell. Or I might just pocket the money and stick with the FTA system and local channels.

I would change in a heart beat. All 5 of my receivers are DVRs. After being late to the DVR party compared to others, we've jumped in with both feet into the deep end of the DVR pool.

My brother's coming out to California for a little while ad he'd be lost without ESPN. I'll be getting back into pay TV for the first time in several years. Which should I get? My choices are Directv, Dish and Verizon? Thanks all!!!

That's going to depend upon several factors, so you'll have to decide what is best for you. What type of shows do you like to watch, do you watch sports, are you getting HD, etc....
Here's my personal opinion, and take it for whatever you want.
In terms of HD, Dish and Direct are about equal except in the number of local stations offered. Dish has better DVR's (so I've been told, but I've never had one so I can't say for certain), and has more movie channels available. The DVR's for Direct aren't as bad as some people would have you believe, but they're not perfect by any means. Direct does offer more sports programming.
I've never had Verizon, so I won't comment on that. I do suggest you browse both the Dish and Direct forums of this site, as each provider has their issues that you should be aware of before you sign up with either one.

Get Verizon unless your HDTV is smaller than 42".

Yes I would switch but it would be costly
I have 2 Dish accounts
1 I have a 622, 722, 211 and 301, the 301 has a replay tv on it
2 Dish account 2 Milwaukee locals only for packers and Jets football that is a 501 and a 508
I would need to get Directv Sundat ticket in Hd as well as 3 hd dvr's
So I am hoping It doesnt happen.

I wouldn't swap since paying for DirecTV's packages are too much for my TV needs. I'd just pick up a DTVPal DVR. Or just throw together another HTPC and another HDHomeRun for the bedroom. 4 QAM/OTA tuners feeding the media server would work great! ;)
The 722 has me spoiled though! Love being able to watch TV in the bedroom from the same recordings in the living room.

Yeah...yeah... still running the old school 27 inch SDTV in the bedroom. I usually don't watch TV in the bedroom though. Just have it on as I'm watching something else ;)
