Has DirecTV ever deleted channels that did not go under on their own? I know they get rid of packages such as Hot Pass, but they always give their subs plenty of warning in advance.

Even with Hot Pass, its not so much going away as it is being replaced. I am not sure on the first part of your question, I will see what I can find

They are not deleting the channels, they are only changing what is being offered in a particular package.

It appeared many of the removed LIL channels were put back on by E* one by one soon after, if that was any indication that the stations caved in, then maybe it is a good lesson for D* to follow:)

It seems E* likes dropping channels.
They haven't dropped anything yet I care about though.

Well if they got to crazy, Like dopping Premiums,(Not Voom),or any of the main networks,(CNN,USA,Sci-fi,TBS,TNT,AMC,and so on. I would just drop E*. Thats all! Seems to me they just like taking out the Trash more then some.:)

Isn't that still removing channels? If you have a package with x number of channels and then the next day you have x -1, IMO that is deleting channels.

Only if you consider it adding channels in whatever package the channel went to (the y+1 thing).

If the channel goes to another channel or if it was just removed from a package.

What if they are added to a lower Pack? Is that adding channels?

I think if they delete channels the package price should go down and not up!!!

No, because the channel was not deleted, as the question of this thread asked. The provider is still carrying the channel, they just moved it to another package.

They deleted channels from packagaes and replaced them with "music" Some english speaking subs were using the spanish package as a way to save money, but with this latest change that is no longer possible

It's not just the satellite providers. My mom's Comcast lost a bunch of channels recently too. http://freeimagevault.com/img/BP/t.gif

You actually mean satellite provider?.The only satellite provider losing channels I see is Dish.

The difference is Dish takes off channels for a better price no matter if Dish gets a better price the Dish subscriber does not see the savings come Feb.1st.

I don't understand how I would be saving money with my local Comcast service compared to what I pay for Dish Network, and Comcast has several more channels I enjoy (like the Viacom digital suite). Makes the argument that these removals being for frugal customers who don't wanna pay a lot kinda hogwash, doesn't it?

Fist post.
Questions, questions...

1. So what is supposed to happen Feb. 1st

2. Can someone explain what E* and D* stand for. I would guess E* is DirecTV and D* is Dish.

People, the world is drowning in a flood of accronyms.

As for Dish or DirecTV. My take (and no I do not yet subcribe to nor have I ever) is Dish has less channel appeal (quite subjective) with superior equipment. at a cheeper cost. DirecTV has better programing selection with greater cost. I am not fond of either one as I hate organizations that offer a teaser price that only lasts for a short period of time. Then when the offer expires, you get hit with a bill that is much more than you ever expected.

One last item. I live in Lane county in Oregon. Where Dish has not been offering local CBS affiliate since their dispute with Fisher communications.
Too bad for Fisher. fewer people watching. Too bad for Dish. Bad reputation.
Marketing opportunity for DirecTV. Greed. It will kill you every time.

Welcome.Feb.1st is when Dish raises their prices.March 1st is when DirecTV raises their prices.;)

Your assumption about both providers is correct. If channels missing in the guide in the morning doesn't bother you should go with Dish,I did for 4 1/2 years but never had their DVRs at the time there was alot of complaints about them at that time.
Now been with DirecTV for 3 years I wake up in the morning my channels are there.I use their DVRs have not had any major issues.I pay more for my programming I'm happy who knew? not me I never thought I would ever have DirecTV.:):welcome

After reading the above note, I looked at my own DirecTV bill and realized I have not watched the HD channels in the HD Extra pack for a long time, so I went online removed it and got a little bit of the money back.

But not nearly as much as Hemi, I understand when he called E* to complain, he got $20 off for 6 months:)

I should have looked at my account first.:)
Under my Promotions I qualified for HBO and Starz for 3 months free, So I got $20 per month for 3 months, and for signing up for another 24 months I got $10 off for 1 year. If any of you have E* , Log into your account and see if they are offering you and promotions. Quite a few have been taking atvantage of their $180 credits for the year.

No this is not the first, 18 months ago when I was still with E* they gave me similar discounts not once but several times, and that was when E* was adding 200k+ subs each quarter.
