here it is plain and simple
1. bill increase
2. too cheap to pay for local channels
3. 80% of the time you get a person that cant speak english
4. bogus fees "hd enabling"???? give me a break
5. launched 61.5,72,77,105,110,118.5,119,121,129,148,157
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
dish is loosing money because it launched way too many satellites due too poor planning. how many sats do you need??
what makes your bill so expensive is that portion of that goes toward the receivers. people used to buy them and that kept costs low.
if dish wants to stay afloat this is what needs to be done. ALA CARTE people dont want to pay extra for channels they may never watch!
all these bull crap fees! heres what i envision
1. overheat fee
if the ITS in the hd dvr and dvr boxes are warm alot they will send a message via phone line you will be charged $5 a month because the receivers might break sooner
2. if you live in a windy area you get charged 7.99 a month because you dish will blow off course more
3. if you live in a salty area will be charged 4.99 a month because your dish might rust out sooner
4. if you eat greasy food you will be charged a 1.99 a month remote protection fee becuase your remote might wear out sooner
5. you will be charged $50 if the installer gets a flat tire or runs out of gas on the way to your house.
6. if you have hd you will get charged 2.99 hostipal fee bceause you may get a heart attack from watching scarry movies in HD
7. if you have pets you will ne charged a 3.99 pet awareness fee in case it chews up the bill
8. if you have kids you will be charged 4.99 a month spill fee cause one day your kid will spill soda on the receiver
9. if you live in a farming area you will be charged a 2.99 a month dust fee beacuse more dust will get in the receiver
10. if you live in a area that has more lightning strikes per sqaure mile you will be charged a 4.99 lightning fee incase your equipmet gets damaged by lightning!

1. yep...very VERY true. But time will see if D* will follow suit
2. Which market(s) are you referring to? E* gives a customer a choice of SAVING $5/month if they choose to not subscribe to their locals
3. A rather huge exaggeration, don't you think? And honestly, every time I've called and I needed an issue "forwarded" to the escalations dept., I was transferred to very American sounding CSR
4. As of Dec. 17th...at least in EA markets, every customer is getting a HD receiver *and* is having their "enabling" fee waved if they choose SD
5. Wasn't aware that E* launched all of those birds. Funny, always felt they were leasing most (if not all?) of them

The funniest part about the post is the guy is wrong on so many things. People can still buy there receivers if they choose. Then hes complaining a satellite company has to many satellites. Well I think Chevy has to many silverados also. With ALA Carte what would happen to all the shopping networks and C-span plus all the PPV?

I'm sorry, but I'm as big of a Dish supporter as there is, but "SAVING" $5/month? Nice spin.
C'mon. Nowadays, if you can get your locals OTA, the only reason you keep the $5 fee is to keep the guide. The $5 fee is a ridiculous fee.

DISH has more "because we can" ridiculous fees than any company ;sat or cable. Which is funny because they started as a low cost alternative to cable because of excessive "cable FEES". I have said before, that they could of eliminated a lot of excess fees to soften the excessive 8.00- 10.00 price increases and give their subs something of value for the increase. Like no more dvr fees PER RECEIVER. If you sub to AEP no dvr fees and NO additional receiver or lease fees upto 3 receivers on an account. OF course no silly phone connection fee . IF you did this you would become very attractive to new customers and would add to your total customer line ,instead of continuing to lose subs every quarter , like the last two quarters. Sat companies are built on new customer additions and what Charlie and company have been doing in the way of fees , is making them lose subs. Making the AEP the most for your value would get your average customer revunue rise as well. If I ran DISH this is what I would do and then advertise that in these bad economic times, DISH is leading the way in providing real value for families and giving them more for their money. They could really bring in the new subs if they did something revolutionary and didn't charge for HD. DISH the home of FREE HD! Imagine the amount of subs that would then move to DISH to get the real values ,even with the price increases. The price increases are unavoidable as long as ala carte is not allowed by law, but the ever increasing fee structure is all DISH's to change to make them more attractive to customers.

Carp! Way to Go! You just gave Charlie more ideas than he knows what to do with. Next year the new fees might be more of a reality than you think.
We may still be able to buy the receivers but what good does that do when Charlie reaches in your window and claims that it's actually his? Is it really fun to jump through all the hoops he has you do to prove it's yours? Reminds me of those con artists that 'buy' (http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/113-12242008-1643102.html) you house from under you illegally.

1. Dont insult me. A rule of this forum is to show respect for other members. Il keep [I]my own[I] comments to myself to prevent flame wars., which by the way have been starting to take over.
2. What i know is this. Dish DID NOT have off-shore based call centers, you used to talk to a live human. Its not the csr's fault if they speak in a strong accent it is just hard for them to understand us. I bet if we were the, we would sound funny to them. But since (when i had dish) I had to repeat myself very clearly it makes people frustrated. If people get that way over a service then they tend to not like it.
Dish used to sell there equipment. Primestar's bill was high due to the fact that the equipment cost installation, and maintence was included in the bill. Dish had low bills due to the fact you had to pay for the equipment. But since they came out with hd dvrs with networking functions and VOD and satellite dishes that can pick up 3+ satellites. A satellite system with 1 hd dvr and 3 receivers and a dish 1000.2 and 100 foot of coax install would run you easily over $1000 dollars.
Did you ever notice anytime dish raises rates new types of receivers get made?
a portion of your bill is for the receivers! if they made people pay for the equipment like back then, your bill wouldnt be as much.
dish started because people didnt want to pay for cable, but since the have raised rates so many times, cable is looking better.
Since more people subbed to dish, that means more receivers has to be made and that will cost more.

1. bill increase
lets see. My mom got her yearly Comcast increase and it was almost 5 bucks...FOR ANALOG FRFEAKING CABLE!!...oh thats right...they added Big 10 until April  too bad they took away 7 or 8 channels and put them on digital. Directv will follow suit.
2. too cheap to pay for local channels
huh?
3. 80% of the time you get a person that cant speak english
every time I called I got an "English" speaking rep. It may be Buckistan heavy thick accented English, but it's English. Where I work we have French & Spanish speaking reps and most of the French reps have a pretty thick English accent...but its understandable :)
4. bogus fees "hd enabling"???? give me a break
webby pointed it out but here is a question...Does DirecTv allow you to get a HD box if you don't subscribe to HD??
5. launched 61.5,72,77,105,110,118.5,119,121,129,148,157
157 was never used
105 wasnt launched by Dish. They are leasing it and now subleasing it to other people since they don't use it.
121 for most part isnt being used except for a couple business customers. All locals & Int'l channels that were on there are gone to other sats.
as for others....61.5 Dish has acquired alot of the transponders there when they bought Voom. Sky Angel owned 8 transponders on 61.5 but gave 6 to Dish in exchange to uplink their channels for Sky Angel.
Also, Dish owned the sat slots so they didnt launch satellites just for a specific spot...they just moved sats around. Echo 1 & 2 (until 2 blew up) were at 148, 3 is at 61.5, 4&8 are at 77, 5 is at 129, etc....most of the satellites were at 110 or 119 at one time or another
But right now what is the difference between Dish & Direct?
Most folks are getting Eastern Arc setups which is one dish at 61.5/72/77
Others are getting 110/119/129
Int'l folks are getting either 110/118.7/119 or 110/118.7/119/129 so its one dish
A few smaller markets are on 148 so you need a 2nd dish but on Direct some smaller markets are on 72.5 so you need a 2nd dish
so contrary to what you think, not everyone has 4 dishes on their roof :)

webby pointed it out but here is a question...Does DirecTv allow you to get a HD box if you don't subscribe to HD?? D* used to not require you to Have HD access, But I think Now Yes You must carry HD access $9.99 while you are leasing HD equipment, and DVR fee of $5.99 for DVR equipment.. You would have to either be out of your programming commitment or own your receivers To avoid.
Int'l folks are getting either 110/118.7/119 or 110/118.7/119/129 so its one dish
IIRC folks on EA for locals but wanted international would need two dishes (like Austin TX)?

IIRC folks on EA for locals but wanted international would need two dishes (like Austin TX)? I thought you still needed a seperate Dish for the 118 no matter where your at. The 1000.2 only has 3 LNB's same with the 1000.4 . They only have a 4th satellite input to Add another dish.

true. But this is only for EA & Int'l...its alot better then what it was
example
A Sky Angel customer living in (since you used Austin in your example I'll stick to TX) San Angelo or Abeline or (at one time) a few other smaller areas in TX would need 3 dishes
110/119
148 for locals
61.5 for Sky Angel
If they wanted an Int'l package, it could have been on 148 or 121...if all channels were on 121 then you had a major issue... :)
The 2 examples I gave above still need 2 dishes as their locals are on 148 (Along with Casper, WY & Rapid City, SD....Alaska exempt from the conversation)

SOOOO TRUE TO THAT ..I have problem every damn month, because they charge me wrong and i have to call them every month for same old issue and they says is ok then month after same o B.S..I dont think dish gonna last till next year i mean 2010,after AT & T gonna drop dish in FEB09..Dish real gonna down the drain!! I live in cali we have sound drop issiue in local HD channels for over few months now ..100s of emails and phone calls me & cali people did ,nothing happen!!..about inda customer service thing.. when u call when they pick up & says hello...just hang up and redial couple time till u get american agent, thats what i do all the times when i call dish..those india people dont know shit when u ask something they put u on hold 10 times to ask someone else..just wasting time & just BUll shit!!
anyway good luck!

The Superdish Plus (? or 1000.4?) can see 110, 118, 119 and 129, with a DP44 switch, single cable run to each dual-tuner DVR.
The billing with DirecTV is now just as bad, they called me to offer me an HBO/Cinemax special at 1/2 price for three months, gave me the credit for the first cycle, two more months had passed I still am calling to find out when they will give me the 2nd and the 3rd credit, while I have been billed at the full price. There are many long time D* subs never thought they were still under a contract, for whatever the reason decided to cancel, only to be hit by a big "early cancellation fee", because they unknowingly "committed" to a new contract after replacing a defective receiver in the past few months.
This is the only area where I think ATT Uverse is better at handling the billing issues.

Let me lay it out there as I have recently switched allegiance from E* TO D*, Dish sucks for these three reasons alone.
1. Charlie and his cronies are the worst liars on television, by advertising that they will have 150 HD channels and only coming up with 120 or so. Just a crook move
2. The VIP series, especially the HD DVR's are overrated; I have the 211 and 722 boxes and expanding memory is a lame reason to claim technical superiority. I watch things on my DVR and then I deleted, rinse and repeat every weekend. Nothing special or technologically advanced about that.
3. The website is horrible; sure we argue about Picture quality and HD lineups. But at the end of the day, it's nice to see that you're not getting shafted by Ergen. On the website, all you get is your payment from last month and your current payment. Nothing about specials to current customers or anything to help you on the site, only things to piss you off.
These are my reasons why I will pay my cancellation fee to get rid of the "ERGEN" in my system and start enjoying real TV for a change.
P.S., Not everyone can receive locals from one satellite, that is another major problem with dish. I wanted my locals in HD and was told I couldn't get them based on the side of the road my condo faced, DISH bites.

They dont know the proper def of a channel.
In my book a channel is something that has something on that entertains, inform, etc.
I went to wikipedia and counted 100 HD channels.
But those are channels that are movie channels or ppv channels.
If I ran a cable/sat company, the hd channels you get with your package are the number.
If you had purchased every ppv, movie channel, and international channel, then you might get all the hd channels.

To be fair, the non-US CSRs were very nice too, just that maybe because of different culture, their being nice may actually annoy us:) I had one lady kept apologizing to me, and I did not know why which made me feel very uncomfortable. Maybe she thought I was upset which I was not. Misunderstanding can turn good situations into bad ones.
