Just curious, exactly what channels (HD or SD) does Direct offer that Dish doesnt? Also what channels does Dish offer that Directv doesnt? Please keep this strickly to programming and not linking to the packages on their website, Im more interested in what channels they are and why they are useful (or in heavy rotation on your TV)

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head id Directv offers that Dish doesnt is MLB (SD and HD), A few of the Showtimes channels in HD, but not sure what else.

dish is better with the premium packages while Directv is better with the sports packages. that's the biggest difference in programming i see.

Most of the Fox owned channels in HD such as FNC and FX, and Viacom owned channels, such as MTV, CMT, and VH1. Also, I forgot Spike, Speed, and Fuel

That sums it up pretty much, although I would say there is a larger gap between what both offer when it comes to sports than there is when it comes to what they offer with premiums.

I didn't get to Far into RSN's since in most cases unless you subscribe to a sports pack they are blacked out on both E* and D*. College sports is mostly what you'll get.

OK, Hemi..... How dows 38 + 50 = 116? I don't see the 116 channel difference unless I am missing something. Also there are channels on your listing that Directv carries. They have BYU and v-me channels just to name a few as I did not look at all of them but I knew I had seen these before.

All you need to know is on Dish's website they feel the need to list the same channels mutiple times which is not only confusing but makes their offering look like more than what it is.

yeah I've never seen such a thing on their website. the only dumb thing i've seen like that is on charlie chat with those displays in the background that contain channel logos. I've never seen them do this on their website nor on any brochure available to new customers.

No, you can not help it, but he has a point. They list it twice, is it to show that it is on two different channels? Or to make it look like there is more there than there really is?

D* may do this also, although I have not seen it if they have. For example do they list 73 AND 206 somewhere?

rey_1178
01-24-2009, 04:01 PM
damn that's not the list I saw. you're right jhon69. that's a different list from the one i looked at. sorry. the reason for those repeats is that they are part of certain packages that wouldn't include the lower channel ranges. ofcourse not everyone knows that.

No, not everyone knows that, and i can see (and its easy to chalk it up to) why they put it on there. For the purpose of this discussion though, and given E* (and D*s) past counting history, is that why they did it? Or did they do it to make it look like more than it really is?

Yes Now I agree thats not a cool way to show what channels you offer.
Someone should look into this. Its a complete mess 100%. I don't know if they are trying to make the list look bigger, Or the have another dimwitted CSR making the list up.

It's not just HD channels it's SD too.Don't think Angel is HD?.Anyways Thanks for the other lists they are correct and yes it's probably some CSR but I would believe Charlie knows about it.It was that way when I had Dish 3 years ago. Thanks again HEMI!.:)
