no, I don't hate dish, but I do hate their SD programming. I just got 2 directv HD DVRs and love them. DISH's SD programming just had awful video compression, it had worst quality than youtube. true an exageration but not by much. Directv seems to have better video quality, plus their box's software seems to be better, but I don't feel as though it's a fair comparison because I didn't have similar boxes to compare.

on a final note, I don't know if I heard the FiOS commercial right, did they say they have 100% uncompressed tv?

However, FiOS TV pretty much passes through 100% of the SD and HD signal being delivered to them by the programmer.

yeah well I guess FiOS is still good because the fewer times you compress it the better.

Can't wait until Comcast advertises uncompressed TV because it's uncompressed by the time it reaches your tv. just like how they offer "fiber optics"

I used to have a dish HD box and a dish SD box, I know it upscales but there's no way upscaling can fix that type of compression

as for directv's SD I used to have it but I don't remember the picture quality

I hope you are talking about analog TV....but that is basically compressed to from the network to your local station. Digital TV is also compressed.

Basically anything we as consumers can view is compressed at some point

yeah but can't we atleast shoot for less compression and fewer number of times compressed? even cameras record lossy video, then assuming they transfer it to workstation without recompressing it, they edit it, then that program compresses it again, then when they air it it's compressed, then if you record it on a DVR it's compressed yet again

I hate to tell you , but a mountian or home between you and the signal would not be a E* specific problem in the sat arena

It still would not make it a problem specific to E*. If a mountian is between a person and the sat (with any company) it would present the same problem. ;)

I did not know E* was even offered in the UK.
