So, where can I sign up for it?
Oh sorry, I didn't know that was the primary requirement for posting here. :o

Why are you asking where you can sign up for it, when you just said that no one can get it now?

Yep... ESPNU is moving out of the sports pack.

Link?

I've seen the speculation that the reason why we don't have ESPNU-HD is because ESPN wants it out of the sports pack. I've seen the speculation that D* may consider switching the package location of ESPN Classic and ESPNU. But no where have I seen that it is actually happening. This would be important because that would probably mean that ESPNU HD would follow quickly.

that's true. and who knows what else this might mean in terms of channel additions.

So, your comparison is meaningless then. Since nobody can get it now.
He was just replying to my post. I stated that it would cost me more to switch to Dish and he showed why it would cost him more to switch to Direct.

Hi folks,

haven't posted for a looong time here... anyway, I hate my overpriced yet utterly crappy quality cable, I gutted it to the point where my wife (home with our 1-year old princess) isn't rioting just yet (SciFi is still there :)) but now that they dropped HDNet I can't wait for FiOS any longer, I've had enoughI think... and today an old friend stopped by just gave me a brand new, unopened unit called ViP722 DVR (or whatever it's called), for free - never better timing!

My question is, I guess, what's the best deal with Dish setup if I do not want to sign any commitment?
I'm thinking about something around $40-50/mo, like Silver HD but perhaps w/ MSNBC and HBO included (and as I can see there's a Cinemax for 1 penny/mo for a year if I sign up for paperless billing)... however I don't see any option to remove the activation fee nor to declare that I have my own receiver and setup so I don't need any installation etc etc.

To be honest I haven't decided anything yet but now with this 722 it really turned up my interest...

...so should I give them a call? If so is there some secret promo I should insist on? ;)

Wow.
I checked back in 2 months and 100+ replies later to the thread I started. User here sure take the ball and run with it, to use a sports analogy.

The DN service has been fine so far since I started, no problems. Reasonably satisfied with the channels available. Sometimes miss the car chases on TruTV.

I need to cancel HBO before the end of this month when the freeby ends. I am not at all impressed with the offerings of HBO/Starz. They keep repeating the same movies, plus crap like Bill Maher or Ellen Degeneres. I wouldn't pay $2/month for it, let alone $15 to 28.

I figured out how to connect the 211k to my Wifi signal, by using an old Linksys router as a repeater/client. This may come in handy later on. ;) ;)

I saw this posted by Scott on this site and someone else on the other site. I think Dish is finally doing what it should have been doing all along. I saw a similar thing on a commercial as well.

IT IS ABOUT TIME they start putting up some advertisements that are going to actually sale their product.

Now I do have to question their "Highest Picture Quality" comment. Which standards to the base this on? Is it because of 1080p? If so, DirecTV offers even more 1080p content and you can get some of it through the dish (no broadband needed).

Even on their website they still don't have an updated channel line up card with all the new HD they just put out.

Just that they leave out some facts, or neglect to mention something, from the site, for example just in the technology tab:

"Dual-Tuner HD Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) – You can watch different content in two rooms with just one receiver; with DIRECTV you need a receiver in each room. - Just forgets to mention that the 2nd room isn't HD, in fact it's SD sent over RF/Coax, the worst possible way to provide a signal.

"99.9% reliability – You can’t get better reliability with DIRECTV" - Prove it, I've seen a number of post where Dish customer log that they've lost local or national channels and reason being given is bad storms at backhaul or uplink sites, I haven't seen the same problems being reported on DirecTV.

I would agree, take this information get it out there with some decent commercials., I think they did a decent job laying the info, of course there is some eleemnt of advertsing in invloved. They even posted info on Sunday Ticket and the cost factor, for my Directv satellite guys out there, I am not sure I would agree with the statement but hey at least they are stepping out of the box a little bit)

I guess I read it wrong, or they wrote it in a way that one can misinterpret what they meant?

Similar to the DirecTV commercial on Fox Saturday baseball that simply said, "Get every game in HD for the entire season." One can interpret that as every single game on every single channel since they did not make a mention of Fox games themselves.

Just a case of using the words loosely.

We all know it is biased and they left off information. That is what they are supposed to do when they are trying to sale their product and make themselves look a lot better than their competition. They are not lying, they are just using their words loosely.

None of what you claimed can be proved either. My equipment and service has been more reliable then my equipment with D*
And your DVR Rant is pointless because they never claimed it did 2 rooms in HD, It does DVR in 2 rooms perfectly fine. And you can read all you want about complaints about locals dropping out with Dish, Its all Hear say, and Proves NOTHING. Except your Blind Love for D*. Get your DVRs working as they should , Then talk to me about E* equipment.

All I can say is that I have no problem with good old fashion, in your face, advertising, as long as they do not lie. Leaving out information or not including things that the other company does better is not lying. It is up to the other company to then point out what they do better and what they left out.
