Who do you think has superior pic quality standard digitial and HDTV dish or direct?

raoul5788

The sd quality varies greatly on Directv from channel to channel. I don't know about Dish. From what I have read the hd quality on Directv is a bit better than Dish, but if the programming on Dish is what you want, it is a better value, since they have an hd only package.

Over all Dish has Better SD PQ then D*, It seems D* SD Channels Vary a lot anymore , Some are good others look way over compressed. My Guess the 101 is PACKED FULL.
HD TV D* wins IMHO.
Most of the HD channels look better then E* most of the time.
But at times E* has some better PQ then D*, But only like 20-30% of the time.

Completely agree with your PQ assessment. I just went back to E* after having a short (8 month) jaunt with D*. I couldn't handle the lack of responsiveness from the D* HD-DVR (HR-21 with AM-21). I am now happy again with my 722K.

Who is your local telephone company? If it happens to be CenturyTel or Frontier, or TDS, somebody like that, you could bundle Dish with your telephone, internet and DSL.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. D* must save the bandwidth for the over priced sports packages cause when they are on the rest of the channels PQ suffers.

Well I tell you what from what I've seen thats not the case. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But every time time D* puts extra sports on it effect the picture on everything else. Seen it on several setups. So as far as I see it D* is only good for the over priced sports.

I've had both D* and E* HDDVRs and would say that the picture is different on each, but one certainly isn't 'better' than the other. And the difference is slight.

I see in another thread that D* now has a new NR for the HRs. I don't know how they spell BETA test, but can't figure out how NR stands for it. :)

You lose credibility when you post stuff like this. Argue the facts, not opinions. When Directv has "over priced sports packages" like Sunday Ticket on, they take down the necessary hd ppv channels. That's where the bandwidth comes from, not the other hd channels. They did take off TNT hd on Sundays for a year or two before D11 went up, but no more.

It was a few but USA, TNT are the only two that come to mind right now.
But it was only when they had extra sports on and I never had that problem with D*.
If it was the user he would have the same problem on the sports which he doesn't. My friend with the LED TV just watches sports so he doesn't care but if you ask he will tell you about it.

TNT-HD was the channel, besides PPV's, that were shut down to make bandwidth available for NFL-ST. Even before HD came along DirecTV shut down SD PPV channels to make bandwidth available. USA-HD (or sd) were never shut down to make room for any other programming, you're mind is not remembering correctly.

This is suprising. Most will say that often times ESPN is towards the bottom when it comes to sports HD PQ.

I know compared to the NFL ST package, any time ive watched it, there is no comparison. Sunday Ticket in HD wins hands down. Its among the best HD available from what I have seen.

My main problem with ESPN is that their PQ can vary so darn much.

Sometimes its pretty good, and then the next game will look like crap.
