I just had Directv installed and I have the DVR - R16-500 & HR-20/700 receivers. The HD receiver (HR-20/700) has, as I understand it, an RF capable remote - which I am using in IR mode because I have a Harmony 1000 that I use to control everything in my HT setup and the way I understand it the HR-20 uses either RF or IF, not both. I am fine with this. The R16-500 (again, as I understand) has an internal RF antenna but not a RF capable remote.

My question is:
Is there a way I can use the R-16 remote on the HR-20 in IR mode and use the HR-20 remote on the R16 in RF mode.

In the top left corner of the remote is a model number. Please tell us what models you have?

Model RC64 for the R16 and model RC64R for the HR-20.

In the R16 menu go to remote control and follow instructions for RF remote use the RC64R remote from the HR20. The RC64 should operate the HR20 in IR without doing anything.
