With all the new HD channels coming out soon, what are the chances Bight House adds ESPN360 . com access?
College football season is coming up, and I am missing out. I hear there is a way to access ESPN360 . com using my Bright House internet connection, but have yet to figure it out. Maybe someone here can verify if this is even possible.
Bright House, please don't make me switch my ISP just so I can access ESPN360 content.

I'm guessing all BHN service areas would have to make a master agreement of sorts with ESPN before this happens. Not just Orlando or Tampa divisions. And I don't think Time Warner Cable has it, and from what I've observed with past service offerings from BHN, TWC usually offers something in their markets before we, as in BHN customers, get it...as far as programming or other distributed media content. Could be wrong here but thats what might be in the way of you getting it. (Considering it's an ESPN product, it also may just be too darn expensive in licensing terms for BHN to want to agree to the terms of becoming an affiliate.)

GOOD News for College Football Fans! I have found a way to access ESPN 360 .com even if your ISP (brighthouse/road runner) doesn't subscribe. All you need to do is log on to your ESPN 360 .com account from an affilliated ISP (from a friend or family members house), and activate REMOTE ACCESS. Then you will be able to use all features of ESPN 360 by just logging into your synced account from ANY ISP, Anywhere!

The ISP that you use to sync your ESPN account with has to be able to access ESPN 360... I went over to my parents house because they have AT&T, logged in to MY ESPN account and synced it to THEIR ISP. Now I can use the remote access from ANY ISP to use ESPN 360.
Hope that clears things up. I didn't mean to confuse...

Know anyone with Comcast? Same works for their service. :) It's not really against TOS when you think about it. You're using a SSO (single sign on) which is a choice from the screen that identifies you as not being on a provider they have an agreement with. You can then select a carrier from which you do have an account, authenticate using that provider's SSO page, and you're whisked into ESPN 360 *by design* so it's an intended landing. I just provide the Comcast email address I have under my folks' Comcast service where they live, (heck the email address is based upon my own name) ... and presto I'm watching. Now, ESPN still enforces blackout policies based on the IP address of the provider you're watching from, and not the provider's credentials you just used to watch the service, so you'll still be bound by their territorial rules if any exist for the game you're going to watch. You just aren't watching on Bright House's dime, pretty much.

There are reports that Time Warner who is negotiating for Brighthouse and ESPN/Disney have reached a preliminary agreement to continue carrying ESPN/Disney and in cities like New York the local ABC affiliate, It looks like once the agreement is finalized ESPN 360 will be available.
The ESPN360 issue seemed to be the biggest hangup on reaching an agreement

Good News, Bright House Has reached a agreement and we well be getting ESPN 360 access now :).
The addition of ESPN3.com, ESPN's live sports broadband network, which will be available to all Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers who get ESPN. ESPN3.com gives Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks fans a 24/7 online destination that delivers more than 3,500 live, global sports events annually as part of TV Everywhere. This addition also gives Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks the rights to feature cleared content from ESPN3.com on its sports tier.

Does anyone know when ESPN3.com is suppose to go live on Brighthouse? I called them this morning and they were clueless.
Best line of the day:
Brighthouse Agent: "Sir, have you tried to access ESPN3.com yet?"
Me: "Yes, I get the message saying my ISP is not affiliated with ESPN3.com."
Brighthouse Agent: (Short Pause) - "Who is your ISP sir?"
Me: "Um, you are."
Best conversation of the day so far.

It's going to take some time to get it activated probable because they just made a deal not long ago just give it a few more days!!
UPDATE: I am now being told you have to have Cable service with them does not matter if you have internet!
A fear of cord-cutting played a towering role in Time Warner Cable's negotiations on its new carriage deal with Disney. So much so that TWC will soon make ESPN3.com available only to subscribers who pay for TV service. TWC is the only distributor to negotiate a deal placing that wall around the live-sports site. Every other provider that offers ESPN3 -- from Comcast to Verizon -- allows a customer to subscribe only to its broadband service for free entry. But at TWC, a customer who pays it $48.99 a month for broadband, but gets DirecTV, will be blocked out. Bright House Networks joins TWC with the game-changing requirement, since it is a party to the Disney deal.

none of the other cable providers who offer cable and internet service requires customers with internet to have their cable as well to get espn3. only time warner and dimhouse. and, oh by the way, i will be cancelling your internet soon for att. at least, i don't need to have their cable and internet services for espn3.
if i have your internet, why should i be penalized? just plain bad business.

Bad Business? It makes perfect business sense. It encourages people to get their TV service to get a bonus. Thats great business.
Sorry but if someone was going to switch just because of ESPN3 they would of done it along time ago. Or at least should have. It certainly will not be any kind of deal breaker for but a very tiny unnoticeable amount of customers. However those that do have BHN tv and internet will certainly appreciate the added bonus. Specially those who pay for ESPN3 on their own.
One question Ice, if ESPN3 is such a big issue why didnt you switch to ATT earlier since they offer it?
iceturkee
09-05-2010, 10:24 AM
because i was hoping bhn would offer espn3.
but you are penalizing those who spend as much money for your internet service which is bad business.
but, hey congrats...finally after complaining to you folks for over a decade about my landlord stealing your cable, you finally pulled the plug on him. and you wonder why bhn is not among my favorite companies?

I fail to see how adding ESPN3 is penalizing ANYBODY. If you didn't have it before, and still don't, what is the penalty? That somebody didn't give you something? Seems neutral to me.
Businesses offer incentives all the time. A bank will give a higher interest rate if you put above a certain dollar amount in. Is that a penalty to those who don't? A business will offer a reduced price for items if you buy above a certain quantity? Is that a penalty to those who buy less?
Now, understand, there's a lot about BHN that I complain about, but I don't see how this is a complainable offense.

"its penalizing people who have bhn internet but not their cable."
Read my post and respond to it rather than just stating an opinion--explain WHY; what is the rationale for the opinion?
So you say banks who give higher interest to large depositors are penalizing the low balance people?
So you say businesses that give something free to customers who buy two things but not to customers who buy one thing are penalizing the person who buys one thing?
In other words. businesses cannot offer incentives?
I will say I don't like the tendency of businesses to give perks, discounts, incentives, freebies, better plans, etc to new customers but not to long-time, devoted customers. But it is perfectly their right to do so--to try to generate more business. If you were running a business, you would try to expand it as well--or would you be content to not seek more business? I guess from what I have read, you would only advertise, but not ever offer any incentive to get new customers--because that would penalize existing customers? As I said, I don't like that, but I surely understand why they do it. Even so, the current situation is not talking about existing customers vs. new ones, but about "big" customers vs. "smaller" ones.

i have no problem with bhn offering a service to people who have their cable. but why penalize those who don't, even if they have their internet? none of the other cable/internet providers who offer espn3 do this to their customers.

iceturkee " i have no problem with bhn offering a service to people who have their cable. but why penalize those who don't,"
In other words, offer the service to people who have their TV cable AND to people who don't--which means, they are not allowed to offer an incentive. Your position is convoluted and contradictory; the second part contradicts the first--so long as you view not offering the whatever to the people who don't qualify as being a penalty.
They can offer the incentive so long as they offer it to everybody? If people who don't have the TV service can get the espn3, then how are they incentivized to buy the TV service? There is no incentive there, obviously. The purpose would be completely defeated.
I give up; I can't discuss nonsense.

Its pretty simple concept. Those who pay for ESPN get ESPN3.. (Which is why you have to have at least the standard TV package which includes ESPN)

I will say BHN is pretty good at allowing long time customers to take advantage of new packages for "new customers" If you know about the package and demand it you will more then likely get it without "too" much fuss. For example I just got my mother moved to the 109/month triple play package shes had cable since the CVI days with the same company/variant of it. They had no problem moving her to the new plan, (She already had triple play but was paying the old package over 130/month.)

It pixelates only during sports? I Watch sports and dont get pixelation, have you ever tried calling in and reporting your issue to get it resolved? Satellite doesn't have a true multi-room dvr either. You can use one box for 2 tv's, sure. One has to be standard definition though. When bhn's does come out it will be TRUE multi room with high definition capabilities on ALL of the tv sets, not 1 or 2.
you honestly seem like your just nit picking anything you can possibly find to complain about. Feel free to switch your services and see how much better the competition is. There is a reason why verizon is struggling to compete in the Tampa market and satellite has (if i remember correctly) under 10% penetration in the market.

You can downgrade to rr light for only 32/month.
You are not being penalized at all. They are not taking away anything they have already promised to provide you for the money you pay. They are are however rewarding customers who already pay for ESPN (via the TV package) to access other ESPN Features including ESPN3.com... They are also allowing Sports Pack customers to get ESPN Goal Line (football and basketball) So are they penalizing non-sports pack customers by offering this only to sports pack customers?

So, is there any way we can find out about deals so we can ask for them?
They do the bulk of their "specials" advertising via direct mail. Which is certainly the most effective way. By sending direct mail (postal and email) to current customers to entice them to upgrade. They save money because they just include the ad with the bill they already send.
So aside from checking the website, and asking friends or even call brighthouse (or insert any company name here) and tell them your interested in becoming a customer and want to get a best deal they have, then call back and ask for the deal you were previously quoted. Sometimes though you may not be able to get the "exact" deal as it could be just a special the sales team you spoke to are allowed to offer, but they certainly can work to make it as close to your offer as possible. The current best rates I know of know in CFL area are Triple play (TV (including HD), Phone and Internet) for 109. And you can usually get a few months of a premium free as well (hbo typically)

Lightning is available in several areas and they are activating hubs pretty fast. Most all the hubs have been wired and ready they just need to be "cut over". Which has to be done at night during maintenance windows, because they have to take down the entire node to move it over to the new D3 (lightning) routers. They can also only do so many per night. But I expect to see all of Central, with Lightning within the next 3 months.
