I don't normally wander into the muddy pastures of the warzone, but hearing about Direct's issues with Comcast's Vs network... Let me ask this, has Direct TV finally passed the "Choice in HD Satellite Providers" title back to Dish Network?

1) They are stooping to dish networks questionable contract wars tactics.

2) They won't turn HD-PPV into HD National content; so they are letting dish pull away in the non-rsn national HD race.

3) If RedZone HD is all that it's rumored to be, Sunday Ticket could loose some of it's luster. Perhaps that is why Charlie is going after direct instead of cable in the fall TV ads - I would imagine that due to sunday ticket; dish looses subs to direct each fall, now that they have an alternate...

If dish could solve their satellite shell game they are playing with their patchwork fleet and launch some of the networks they have been rumored to be working on (ie BBC-America HD/ESPN-U HD)... then we JUST might see the sub-rate pendulum swing back in the dish network direction

1) They are stooping to dish networks questionable contract wars tactics. It was only "stooping" when Charlie was doing it. In most other disciplines it is known as good business.
2) They won't turn HD-PPV into HD National content; so they are letting dish pull away in the non-rsn national HD race. This is a choice between shutting down operating 24/7 channels on Sunday or having room. It is conceivable that Sunday Ticket and other event programming could take upwards of 30 channels.

If you research the crapstorm that they had surrounding shutting down TNT, you'll understand why they did it this way.

I see this site has officially shown their Anti-Directv Sentiment.

Always knew that they were a DISH site.

don't include me in that. yes this site is much more inclined towards dish, but what is being said here that isn't true? dish for the moment has more national HD channels. it's not an issue for me. this can easily change early next year ;)

I'm talking about all the wining and posting anti-D* stuff on the home page.

Do they even know that that DVR article also puts down the DISH DVR GUI?

From the Gizmo.com article:

"I never tried the DirectTV HD DVR, but my experience with a Dish Networks DVR back in 2008 wasn't anything to write home about, either."

Really? Where is the post in this thread that states that? Or do you like making stuff up?

I would think since it seems that DirecTV is now doing their contract negotiations just like Dish,we are both screwed!.;)

Dish needs to get 50+ more HD channels up before DirecTV launches and activates D12.;)

If all your interested in is sports it may be an even match, but what about other services? Does dish have Premium On Demand channels which, by the way, are free if you subscribe to premium channels? Nope. So you're going to get screwed whichever way you go.

Dish Premium On Demand channels? Nope. DirecTV? Yep Dish is still just a DirecTV wannabe

Other than the RSNs where would Dish or Direct get 50 more national HD channels?
By that I mean channels which have REAL HD not stretch o Vision.

Only when D12 is launched and operational and more channels convert to HD.;)

I also believe when Versus tries to get the same thing that they want from DirecTV in Dish's next contract with Versus.Versus WILL disappear from Dish's guide as well.

I see this site has officially shown their Anti-Directv Sentiment.

Always knew that they were a DISH site.
You have to admit that Dish has improved greatly over the last quarter and Direct has either remained stagnate or has digressed...

Dish has improved in customer service
Dish has improved their advertising
Dish has improved their Eastern Arc and announced the improvement on the Western Arc
Dish has added a lot more HD channels
Dish has reduced its prices on many packages
Dish has produced newer and better equipment
Dish has made strides towards improving and simplifying their confusing packages
Dish has added a sports channel that many do want

Direct still has the same old stuff and has not made many additions. They even got worse in some situations (i.e. customer service)

All of those things are true about Dish. Good equipment, good programming and good customer service are all great improvements and appreciated.

Direct has improved also...

They seem to have increased the number of apologists :)
You know, like no matter how many tuners in the box, only two can record at any time.
and you say your HDDVR is slow? Let us help you, 'cause it has to be your install
and you say your remote response is poor? Grudgingly admitted to
and it skips to end instead of just advancing - you are typing too fast
Want the external HD attached? Yes, it is free. You only have to say 3 encantations, light 4 candles, and of by the way it isn't officially supported. And if your HDDVR poops, the HD can't be transferred with its data available.

That is a plus for DirecTV, but not a big one imo. DOD is at best, poor on satellite.

In the meantime, with one HDDVR, I recorded 4 events at the same time while watching a movie I had previously recorded. D* has yet to get beyond 2 events at the same time...

DirecTV can do 3 if one is a DoD program. And you didn't mention that you can do 4 only if you have OTA, if not you're also limited to 2 DBS recordings.

Correct, I had forgotten that. Mostly because I don't find DOD to be very good on either service. Yes, you can download more DOD on Direct, but for the most part, the movies in HD are pay items and in SD aren't worth downloading at all, imo.

And yes, 2 have to be OTA to do 4 live recordings, but at least on Dish I can use all the tuners to record live events. With Direct, you are always limited to 2 live events regardless of number of tuners. It is very handy when all 4 of the broadcast networks have shows you want to watch at the same time.

When I first switched to D*, I got the HR20 and the first thing that made me scratch my head was why in hell have 4 tuners when only 2 can record? Seemed like a dumb design decision then and still does. But then as I noticed the very slow operation of the D* HRs, it became obvious that it was underpowered.

Neither company has ever been more then a whisker ahead of the other since the mid 1990's. That so called Torch is never in D* or E* hand more then 12 -18 months at a time.
E* seems to be increasing its number of Happy excisting customers, while D* had that title for quite sometime.
But thats going downhill for D*.

Equipment, Well when D* came out with any H model receiver that made E* the equipment leader. For now.

Programming has always been up and down for both.

D* keeps blowing Billions on Seasonal sports packs, E* seems to blow Millions on getting Sued. So that about evens them out.

E* has the same goofball owner since the start, while D* can't seem to find a proper home.
So has the torch Passed,? I guess it depends on whether you believe there was a torch to begin with.

For HDDVRs, D* is just an also ran, which is too bad and certainly not what you would expect. They paid Tivo for using some patents, but seemed to pick the worst ones to incorporate into the HR series. Now the hope is that the who-knows-when-soon-DTV-TIVO box will be the panacea to the HRs problems. I don't know if I agree.

Yes they've both spent millions in odd ways, haven't they?

And yes, it does seem that D* is always on the market. I don't know if I'd call Charlie a goofball, but he certainly is different... :)

Says whom? I think it is bad business no matter who does it.So you would have DIRECTV shut down a 14-22 or more full-time standard HD channels to make room on Sundays for Sunday Ticket, MLB EI and HotPass???

Before you answer, remember that you are the one who started the "MLB GameMix is Gone" (http://www.satelliteguys.us/directv-forum/187516-mlb-gamemix-gone.html) thread.

What to these two mutually exclusive bad decisions by Direct have anything to do with the point I made? What does removing Versus due to negotiations have to do with shutting down PPV or a Mix channel on a Sunday?
