I am not buying it...
There are not any 3D sets available yet. Secondly DIRECTV has told me time and again that they won't be at CES this year.
The other thing is where is this 3D content coming from? Is it just going to be a demo loop? If it is who is going to go buy a 3DTV just for a demo loop?

Well the story does tell of the TV set producers who are coming out with TVs that can do 3D.
Any how why would anyone want to wear those stupid glasses that you have to use to see 3D is beyond me.

I have just contacted DIRECTV so lets see what they say.

From DirecTV... DirecTV to Launch 3D Channel? - BIT RATE | Blog on Multichannel News (http://www.multichannel.com/blog/BIT_RATE/29653-DirecTV_to_Launch_3D_Channel_.php)
“I can’t speak to what’s in the blog except to say that 3D is something we are very interested in and we’re looking at all of the various pieces of the puzzle that need to be put together,” said DirecTV VP of public relations Darris Gringeri in an e-mail.
DirecTV is not hosting a press conference at CES (http://www.multichannel.com/hottopic/CES_Vegas_2010/index.php) as it has in years past, nor will it have a booth there — but, according to Gringeri, the company “may issue some press releases.”

You will have to have a tv set capeable of 3D, a program thats filmed in 3D, glasses to watch 3D, and to be quite honest, a big enough tv to watch a 3D show. Squinting at a 37" in 3D is not much of an experience.

Why would you need a 3D TV? Any 3D program can be viewed on any TV, in 3D, as long as you wear the glasses.

Just another thing they wasted money on to crow about on ads. Like all of their 1080p programing and their over priced NFL package.
Charlie won't even think about competing with them in this area until it becomes profitable.

I was just trying to think about how long the movie producers and theaters have been trying to get 3D to be a real success. I kept thinking that the 1st 3D movies were in the 50's, but according to Wikipedia, the first was in 1922!!
So I wonder :
1. Will 3D really be successful now in theaters since it hasn't been since 1922?
2. Assuming #1 is yes, then how long before it actually is good and successful on our TVs?

Dish Dips Into 3D
Satellite TV Operator Debuts 3D Movies On-Demand
By Todd Spangler
Dish Network is throwing its hat into the 3D ring with the launch of a handful of on-demand movies in the format.
Starting this month, Dish will offer access to 3D movies including Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, The Last Airbender, A Christmas Carol and Step Up 3D. Additional titles to come in January include Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After and Saw: The Final Chapter.
A Christmas CarolDish follows satellite rival DirecTV, which was first to jump into 3D earlier this year in hopes of establishing a lead in the new format. DirecTV offers n3D, its own 24-hour channel sponsored by Panasonic, as well as the event-based ESPN 3D channel and 3D movies. Other providers that offer 3D VOD include Comcast, Verizon FiOS TV, Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse TV.
Dish currently isn't offering ESPN 3D, which also is carried by Comcast, TWC and AT&T. Verizon is to add ESPN 3D to its lineup in 2011.
Still, it's early days for 3DTV, and sales of 3D sets to date have been a big disappointment for manufacturers and retailers.
Dish's 3D movies -- which it says will be available in up to 1080p quality -- range in price from $5.99 to $7.99. To watch the movies in 3D, customers must have a Dish ViP 922 HD DVR and a 3D television set with compatible glasses.
To promote its 3D debut, Dish will host a "Home for the Holidays Sweepstakes" through Dec. 31. Each time a subscribers rents a qualifying movie or event from Dish Cinema, they are automatically entered into a drawing to win prizes including a Sony 46-inch LED 3DTV, Sony portable satellite navigation systems, Sony Webbie HD Cameras and Fox Family Prize Packs.
"Dish Network is giving customers the ability to experience the power of 3D from home with a variety of popular movies available on Dish Cinema," Dish senior vice president of programming Dave Shull said in a statement. "Our customers expect engaging video experiences, and we look forward to bringing them additional 3D titles as we expand our Dish Cinema platform."
The movies can be ordered through the Dish Cinema interface by pressing "Menu" then "Dish On Demand," or by tuning to channel 1 or 501. The company provides more information at DISH Network's 3D Site FAQ (http://www.dish.com/3D).
