Why some one would Need 3 Dishes is beyond me. My Guess they are picky.
The Oldest HD customers that live in the East, used to have a Wing Dish for HD, Because the 129 wouldn't work for us. So We needed the 61.5.
Past Year + Eastern Arc came about for us folks in the East. So now we can have 1 Dish for all our programming, Except International.
Line of Sight issues are the only reason I can guess ,why they want a 3rd Dish.

Looking at some post like http://www.satelliteguys.us/2115157-post404.html or http://www.satelliteguys.us/2115157-post404.html a three dish solution is the only way folks can get all the HD channels.

Updated the original receiver fee, missed a receiver. As I said, You are in the less the .05% tile.
You might even be in the Less the .01% tile.;)
7 Rooms of HD is RARE, and you and 1 other D* subscribe are the only ones that have that setup.:p

That's one of the reasons I'm with D* since E* prices themselves out of the market with their additonal receiver fees. As their tag line says, "Why pay more?" which I would if I had Dish.

IMHO, Dish's receiver pricing, if they continue down that road, will be a gotcha for more and more folks when they start replacing their SD sets with HD. I saw an interview with a Panasonic rep and he said that annual HD set sales in the US was 30 million per year. Dish customers that are using the TV2 output will not be happy watching a NTSC SD signal on their new HD, want a new HD DVR and will not be happy with a $17/month charge for the additional box.

Don't know, all I know is that with the new HD channels there's the thread at http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/202795-statement-dish-not-getting-new-hd.html where folks are saying they need to get an additional dish to receive the latest HD channels.

D* needs to hit the receiver fees hard in their ads.

"Why pay $17/mo receiver fees with DISH, when ours is only $5."

Who knows if they will. Once D12 goes active they could hit them with the more HD story. Or once MRV goes productional show someone watching a Dish HD DVR's TV2 output on a HD set but seeing a 4:3 SD image vs. watching a MRV output in HD/16:9. It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the next few months.

I'm not doubting this, But most people by far don't own 4,5,6,or 7 HD tv's and they sure as HELL won't have 7 HD DVRs straped to them. Lets be realistic.:)

They don't now but the tide is changing to HD, the days of a 1 HD only household are going to be shrinking.

My son has three HD sets, my mother has two and is looking for her third. So we agree, Dish's current receiver pricing will in the future make them more expensive then Direct if they both continue that model and HD penetration continues to climb?

I do agree!
Dish is attacking the high end customer
where D* is attacking the average customer.
In order to save money with D* you must never change your base pack, and you must have a ton of equipment.
1-4 Rooms to the average new customer is going to find a higher bill with D*.

Hemi, thanks for doing the numbers. So in your examples the difference is $10/month for one example, the rest are $3 to $5/month, not the dramatic difference that Dish is saying in the recent ad's.

Its not Huge savings. But as you add premiums the gap gets bigger , When you add equipment it get smaller.
But if on E* can be a few dollars cheaper, they might as well take atvantage of it and hit D* where it hurts.

I updated the Equipment area, Because there are a ton of receiver combos that you can have with E*.
Neither setup is really any better then the other.
2 Vip 722 are the best receiver, but to clearify, they are 2 room DVRs' But their are limits to watching live tv and recording when in dual mode.
The Vip 612, aren't as good but you can record and watch live tv without the same issues that the 722's have. Confusing? I'll answer what ever I can.

I better Update, my Price again for Eastern Arc customers, Because the 61.5 Spot Beams have gone dead.
So Plus 1 for Directv.:o
Whats going on Rad? are they saying anything at DBS about it?
Wing Dish customers should be OK , Since they still Have the 119.
Eastern Arc is F#$%ed

I don't know if its a problem, or if Dish is doing something.

I try to make it easy to read?.Double spacing, like typing in all caps, is not inherently easier to read even though many hold it to be the case.

I find it a good idea to separate points so they are easily quoted but special formatting (unusual colors, font changes, bolding, capping) isn't typically appreciated.

Well I am assuming, that people will do the research, like for example for me Dish is still a bit less then Direct, and thats with Two HDDVR's and one SD TV and the 250 package and the Combined HD/old Platnium package. I can get my sports fix with the current sports channels Dish has. (I know some may want my sports card taken away...LOL)

I had Direct for a very long time, I was also a sunday ticket sub. If I was to switch right now, I would pay about six dollars more and have less HD channels that I like. I think the ads can be good because at least it makes the consumer look, and after looking if Dish is not a good deal for them with the channels they are looking for then they can stay with there present company. I think the Ads at least get the consumer to check it out.

Now when the new HD down the road lights up for Direct.....We shall see then

I recently changed my package with Dish three Preimums, looked at the Direct Site just to see how much it would cost with Direct. One of things I noticed is with Direct I would need sportspack for FSC extra 12.00, my savings over Direct is about 25.00 per month.

I have 250 Package
Three Preimums
Two HD DVR's
One hooked up to a third TV for the price of 120 a month

THANKS FOR VISITING!
