So which Dish package has the YES network in it? I know, trick question, they don't have the YES network. That's my point. What provider has the programming you want? If it's Dish, go with them. If they don't have what you want, and they don't in my case, go with Directv! It's really that simple!

Good to see Dish keep pushing it, At least they are showing some of the diffrences in there company. Keep it up Dish!!
But they are not showing all of the difference, such as the number of channels and which channels are offered in each package for the price.
That would be like me having 3 different bags of apples, pulling one apple out of each bag to show that they are all the same, and then telling you one bag is cheaper than the others, while failing to tell you the more expensive bags have more apples in them. I then ask you, "Why would you pay more for the BIGGER bag?" And like some dummy, you are supposed to say, "I guess I was stupid"
Heck, a company can start a package that has only one channels and charge $2 for that package. They then show that one channel on 3 TVs with the prices of the lowest package of their competitors and ask people, "Why pay more?" Funny thing is that some people will fall for it.

Well I am assuming, that people will do the research, like for example for me Dish is still a bit less then Direct, and thats with Two HDDVR's and one SD TV and the 250 package and the Combined HD/old Platnium package. I can get my sports fix with the current sports channels Dish has. (I know some may want my sports card taken away...LOL)
I had Direct for a very long time, I was also a sunday ticket sub. If I was to switch right now, I would pay about six dollars more and have less HD channels that I like. I think the ads can be good because at least it makes the consumer look, and after looking if Dish is not a good deal for them with the channels they are looking for then they can stay with there present company. I think the Ads at least get the consumer to check it out.
Now when the new HD down the road lights up for Direct.....We shall see then

I think all of us DBS watchers will eventually be the winners. Direct will now have to justify to the customers/potential customers for their high prices. Even if they add a few channels, that still won't cut it. They will be forced to match Dish's prices creating a price war with Dish.
If anyone is thinking of swap the providor they currently have after their contract ends, I would call both of them and ask them to beat each others prices.
Thanks Charlie and thank you DTV.

I noticed the latest promotion had the free HDDRV and a Free HD reciver, if you want a second HDDVR its 99 dollars. I also noticed the promo goes untill July, If there are some who are waiting to see what kind of national HD upgrade Directv gets in the next couple of months, if its a nice national HD channel add this could be the promo that makes some switch, especially those who have the three, four or five HD DVRS with dish

Sure just got a letter yesterday I was with DirecTV for 3 years they offered to buy
out my Dish contract($200.),give me $29.off my package for 1 yr,a free HDDVR and HD receiver
upgrade and 3 months Starz and Showtime. They give you a code for their deal.
Problem is I don't have an HDTV.I'm a standard definition subscriber and Dish has
more standard definition basic channels I want like The Hallmark Movie Channel.
Dish has more standard definition Premium Movie Channels,DirecTV-31,Dish-39
.Plus Dish's 625 DVR is awesome!.Imagine 2-120 minute live buffers!.
DirecTV has Yes network, that is true what they don't tell you is if you want the
broadcast games you also need Extra Innings. So it would seem that DirecTV's
new motto should be"If your DirecTV subscription is'nt at $200. a month don't
worry it will be".!
Another one could be"DirecTV,if you have the money,we have the time".How about
"DirecTV, don't look for our package prices on our website they are not there"
and that simply means"DirecTV if you have to ask about price you can't afford us.:rolleyes:

No.
DirecTV made their bed now they have to lie in it and it's all because of greed.
When I was subscribed to DirecTV I started to see a disturbing trend.Being a
standard definition subscriber I hailed the arrival of DirecTV's R22,then some suit
got a bright idea. The R22 is too expensive to make,we should force all our DVR
users to the HR2xs we will make more money. If you want to authorize the R22
for HD,you need to upfront fee a HR2x for that, result it's going to cost the DirecTV
subscriber more money.
Just like the DirecTV subscriber who gets Yes network in CA. and wants to watch
the Yankees games as their played,oh so sorry for that you need Extra Innings
result it's going to cost you more money.
Now DirecTV's Premier package is at $114.99? and Dish's AEP is $99.99 what's
wrong with this picture?....money and DirecTV doesn't have The Hallmark Movie
Channel or Documentary Channel or the same amount of Premium Movie Channels
as Dish in standard definition?.
But they don't care they have more channels in HD you can get so they are alienating their

I am a Dish sub, former Directv sub, I pointed this out becouse these are two things (Reciever up front fees and National HD feeds) that might steer the customer with Dish who is a little ticked with the new fees with there 3rd, 4th and 5th reciever fees. I might look back at them if the new satellite brings there national HD channels up to what Dish has

That's true now that Dish has finally gotten to a one dish solution, they needed to go to EA and get Ciel 2 at 129 so they could do an WA. Before that when I lived in Chicago and now here in Austin you needed two dishes if you wanted HD. That legacy has left a good number of homes here with two dishes on their homes.
Now then can you please explain why there's all the b*tching going on now then with Dish customers saying how they need to get a new dish installed in order to receive the new HD programming that Dish put up on EA.

I think I saw a post from Scott and his bill took a hugh increase due to all the receivers he has. I bet 90% of TV subscribers don't have 4 HD DVRs or more. But your right Scott took a hit. I don't see the point in needing that many DVR's when you can get a 211 with an External Hardrive and make your own DVR, for $7 per month, instead of $17.
You can Lease a 211 for $25-$50 and a hard drive is $99 and and one time fee for $40. $189,VS $199 for HR.

True, I don't fit the mold of a typical customer, just saying with Dish fee structure for additional receivers they don't come close to what I pay for DirecTV.
And why would I want to save $10 for your 211 and harddrive solution for a single tuner box vs. a dual tuner DVR? Sorry but not worth saving $10 and not be able to record something while also viewing live TV. And as you've pointed out in your dealing with Dish, many folks don't pay $199 for a HD DVR, just call and ask for a deal. My last HD DVR was $99 and my last HD receiver was free.

And what is your option for that on Dish? That's right, there isn't one.
So it is a bad thing that one provider offers an option for those outside of a market, and it is a good thing that the other provider does not even off this option at all? And they don't even offer the option within the NY DMA.

All I know is that with MY setup, EVERY time I have checked, I am cheaper with D*.
I have the channels I want, at a price that I like.
Thats enough said. For me anyway:)
Same here

I bet 90% of TV subscribers don't have 4 HD DVRs or more. But your right Scott took a hit. I don't see the point in needing that many DVR's when you can get a 211 with an External Hardrive and make your own DVR, for $7 per month, instead of $17.
You can Lease a 211 for $25-$50 and a hard drive is $99 and and one time fee for $40. $189,VS $199 for HR.
I have only 2, yet Direct is cheaper for me

Why? Even with the sports packages, I have never had a bill as high as some that I have seen in the "post your bill thread" with some E* subs. There are some true $200 bills there. In Q3 of 2009, the DIRECTV ARPU (Accounts Receivable Per Unit) was $85.32.
During the same period, DISH's ARPU was $69.51.
Anecdotal evidence aside, DIRECTV subscribers as a whole paid considerably more than DISH Network subscribers.

And that means nothing since DirecTV has couple of 'high priced' programming packages that Dish doesn't which can make the numbers look way out of wack.
It really doesn't matter anyway since DirecTV has said they have no desire to be the low cost provider.

Look at only those subs without the high add-on package (Which is their choice and not offered on Dish, such as ST and EI). With the numbers you put up you are comparing two different varieties of apples.

While DIRECTV offers ST and EI, DISH offers more HD, arguably better music channels, movie channels and adult channels. The varieties may be different but the fruit is the same [not a reference to LOGO in HD... honest].

I would have to disagree with you. The fruit must be different for a lot!(from what you are saying
) If it was the same dish would have way more subscribers!! So directv must offer what no one else does!? :up

That has nothing to do with why Direct subs pay higher rates on the average. The numbers are inflated for Direct because they have subs paying hundreds of dollars a year for add-ons that Dish does not offer. Compare the prices of those subs that do not pay for things that the other provider does not offer, then you will have a more reliable variable of ARPU

3 HR 23's and R22, And I bet it just cost you $99 Right?
Except in real life they cost a customer $497 since You may have gotton 1 for free., Only Now is D* giving 1 free HR and one H to New customers.
So Divide that into 24 months and you can tack on another $21 per month to your bill Because thats what it cost with D* to have your setup with the upfront lease fees. So again, Maybe your 3rd year of service would be a bargon.:p

(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: How can I help you with your order online?
michael smith: i am looking for a two room HD-DVR system with your top 250 package
michael smith: I need to know what it will cost. I currestly have directvs choice extra package
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: How many TVs are HD?
michael smith: both, and I need hd on both. preferably 722s on each
michael smith: I currently pay around 78 bucks a month
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Choice Extra is our equivalent of Top 200, the 250 is comparable to premier.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: There will be a $100 upfront cost for another 722.
michael smith: americas everything is equiv to premier, top 250 is equiv to choice ultimate
michael smith: so I can get one 722 for free?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: To check local channels and the earliest install date available, can I get your address and phone number.
michael smith: i got both of my HR-20s for free. is there anyway to get two 722s for free?
michael smith: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
michael smith: ###-##8-9967
michael smith: locals are not available here if I am not mistaken
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: No, it will be $100 for the 2nd one since they are for 2 TVs both.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Even a solo HD DVR is for $100.
michael smith: hmm, that may end up costing me more long term. What is the total cost of the top 250 package with 2 hd hdvrs
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: And your rate for 2 722s and Top 250 is $70.99 for the first year then $85.99 after.
michael smith: plus $100 for the second. right?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Everything is included in the monthly rate.
michael smith: what about for top 200 with the same equipment?
michael smith: there are no dvr fees?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: The rates I gave you includes everything.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Nothing extra to pay.
michael smith: why does it say top 250 is 47 bucks on the website? Plus HD at $10 is $57
michael smith: what you gave me includes DVR? that is the difference?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: $47.99 is good for 2 TVs without DVR.
michael smith: oh, ok. would it be cheaper with two 612 dvrs?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: And the price I gave you has no HD yet. Just HD DVR like you asked.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Same rate.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: DVRs are same price HD or no HD.
michael smith: wait, so it is $70 without HD?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: $10 with additional HD channels.
michael smith: so it would be $80 with hd? is that the promo rate?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes. $80.99 then $95.99 after a year.
michael smith: oh, ok. I will end up paying more then. I thought based on the commercials that I would save alot
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Actually 722 is good for your setup already.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Since you can already record 2 separate shows at the same time.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: With 2 722s you record 4 shows at the same time.
michael smith: no, I have two HD DVRs currently. One on each HD set. One 722 would give me HD on one, and sd on the other
michael smith: I need two HD tuners on both. that is what I currently have
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: If you record 2 HD on 1 TV it will be the same having 2 separate HD DVR.
michael smith: Yes, I can record 2 sat and 2 ota with the 722k, that is one thing I would like, but it wouldnt give me HD on the second set
michael smith: I need 4 HD streams though
michael smith: so I need 2 722s to get it
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Then that will be $100 extra.
michael smith: is there any other way to get that? I have heard you can get the 222 and add an external hard drive
michael smith: will that save me anything?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Right now Im online in DTVs site.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Beyond the first TV, DIRECTV subsidizes their monthly receiver fee with large upfront costs. If you switch to DIRECTV, they will charge you $99 for an HD receiver, $99 for a DVR receiver, and $199 for an HD/DVR receiver.
michael smith: yes, it will cost me $100, but my monthly cost will be higher. I am trying to save money lol
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: The 22 isnt a DVR it's just a receiver.
michael smith: I have directv, I am out of contract. I got TWO HR-20s, for free
michael smith: I know, but you can add an external hard drive right?
michael smith: for a fee
michael smith: and make it a dvr
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes I understand that buit like us they changed promotions too.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: New customers on both ends right now will definitely save more money with us.
michael smith: that may be true, but my package price with the same equipment is cheaper with them. I would like to see what dish could do to save me money.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: You are an existing DTV customer that is why you still have their old promotions.
michael smith: I am not getting promo prices with them, you are offereing me promos, and I am still less with directv
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Well in that case I have to admit we cant beat what you have right now.
michael smith: I thought I would save by switching. That seems to not be the case based on what you have told me.
michael smith: Is there anyone else I can talk to?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: As I have said because you have old promos.
michael smith: Ill be honest, you have more hd. I would love to switch
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: But if you are a new customer for DTV you'll spend more.
michael smith: no, my promo rates with directv are up
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Even if you do it online or on the phone, the prices are fixed.
michael smith: Im not a new customer with them though, so that doesnt matter
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: We cant give custom rates.
michael smith: and makes no sense hoenstly. I have current sub prices, and it is still cheaper with my current set up than your promo
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: [17:58:58] michael smith: Im not a new customer with them though, so that doesnt matter <------------ that is why you have cheaper rates with them.
michael smith: im not trying to be hard to deal with. just want the best I can get at the best price
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: What I am pointing out is that if you are a new customer for them you will have to pay $199 for a HD DVR with them.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Well dont include 2 722s.
michael smith: your commercials make it seem like I can save a ton of money, and that is half price. That seems misleading
michael smith: from what you have told me
michael smith: oh, ok
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: You can add it later on as an existing customer since we have promotions wherein you can get equipment for free.
michael smith: I understand your point
michael smith: how long would I have to wait?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Im glad that you see that we are competing for both new customers.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Since that is what is in the major market.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Well as soon as you are activated you are an existing customer.
michael smith: and If it were cheaper...but I will pay more by switching. Surely you can see that I can not do it with the current offer
michael smith: Yes, and you are telling me that as soon as I switch you could give me a second 722 for free? or what?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes and I admit that.
michael smith: \if you can do that I will switch
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes if you qualify also since I am sure that you know our promotions are based on qualifications too.
michael smith: what makes one qualify?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: For this promotion We will need your SSN and DOB for a credit check and a valid credit card wherein if you qualify we will just place a temporary $25 hold that will be lifted within 24 hours.
michael smith: i am not comfortable doing that
michael smith: not with me not being a customer
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Well you can do it on the site.
michael smith: you are saying my credit would have to be good basically?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Even DTV runs a credit check now.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes.
michael smith: they did when I signed up years ago
michael smith: that is not a problem
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Without a credit check you will have to pay for equipment and activation.
michael smith: why cant I get them both upfront? why would I have to wait a few days after I sign up?
michael smith: if you ran a credit check first, could I get both free ?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Because that is not part of the current promotion.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: If you want to get both right now it will be $100 still $99 cheaper than DTV from their new promotion.
michael smith: not for me though, and that is my point. I have their equipment.
michael smith: I dont have to pay for it now
michael smith: and didnt before
michael smith: well, I appreciate your help.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes and I understand that. But the thing is the prices and terms for our new promotion since we are competeting with DTV and other companies new promotions too.
michael smith: I do understand that, but what confuses me is the advertisment, and that your promo, if that is what you are giviing me, is more than my current pricing, which isnt promo
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: We can already give 3 HD receivers at no cost that will cost $99 each in DTVs promotion.
michael smith: I appreciate the info, but I am not interested in that setup
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes that is because you have old promos from DTV.
michael smith: I need two HD-DVRs.
michael smith: one for each tv
michael smith: duos preferably, solos if not
michael smith: whichever is cheaper
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes I know that and I gave you the cost.
michael smith: you are saying that they cost the same?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: $100.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Yes.
michael smith: is the monthly cost the same between the duos and solos?
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: $6 a month for DVR service fee regardless how many you have.
michael smith: i thought the prices had changed on that
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: It did, it used to be $5 per DVR.
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: Now it's $6 fixed even if you have 6.
michael smith: well, thank you for your help
I thought this quote was particularly funny
(01) Freidrich-- B. AKM: [17:58:58] michael smith: Im not a new customer with them though, so that doesnt matter <------------ that is why you have cheaper rates with them.
I am not trying to bash the CSRs, we know we can get "winners" with each, but my rates are cheaper BECAUSE I am NOT a new customer?

And what is your option for that on Dish? That's right, there isn't one.
So it is a bad thing that one provider offers an option for those outside of a market, and it is a good thing that the other provider does not even off this option at all? And they don't even offer the option within the NY DMA.
You are totally correct DodgerKing. The fact here is DirecTV priced themselves out
of my pocketbook sad but true but I will survive.I will take some consolation that
Dish has more standard definition basic channels and Premium Movie channels in
standard definition and a better DVR.
I truly believe that some DirecTV suit made a decision that will alienate DirecTV's
standard definition subscribers and as we all know in both companies DirecTV or
Dish your standard definition base is the largest number of subscribers.
It would also seem that DirecTV is starting to hurt for subscribers my latest offer
from DirecTV(my third letter,I left in Oct.09) was to pay off my Dish contract(up to
$200.) $29. off my package for 1 year,Free HDDVR and HD receiver upgrade.
3 months of Starz and Showtime.
It will be interesting to see how DirecTV and Dish does this year.:)

OK D* Guys so far Dodgerking is the only one from the D* forum to list his exact package. No one else, They all just say "OH I pay $60" ," Oh I pay $75." "OH D* is Cheaper"
This is a Satellite Forum, people come here to see what they are going to be paying with D* and E*, this is also a War Zone thread. So lets not pussyfoot around with our prices people.
Thanks Dodgerking for your info.
He might have an old package , but he did prove his D* was Cheaper.
OK, here's what I have Hemi, please price out what E* would charge for the similar package. The hardware consists of 4 HD DVR's and 3 HD receivers. All pricing is from my 2/5/10 invoice includes no specials or discounts (I removed those so don't include any specials or discounts from Dish).
Plus HD DVR - $79.99 (this is the new price)
Starz and Showtime - $24.00
Protection Plan - $5.99
HD Extra Pack - $4.99
Additional receiver fees - $25.00
Total - $139.97
Western Arc Needs a 1000.2 or 1000 + if they want International . 1 Dish solution.
Eastern Arc Needs a 1000.4 and If they want International a Wing at the 118.7.
Future will bring a 1 dish for all for Eastern Arc customers as the 77 in the future May hold the Internationals.
Now what does Directv need?
A Slimline, and another Huge dish for their pethedic choices of internationals they have.:p
Hemi, back in post http://www.satelliteguys.us/2123042-post50.html I asked you the question:
"Now then can you please explain why there's all the b*tching going on now then with Dish customers saying how they need to get a new dish installed in order to receive the new HD programming that Dish put up on EA. "
You never answered, can you please fill in us D* folks if Dish only needs one Dish for their core SD/HD programming why I'm seeing threads and posts from E* folks saying now they need two or I've even some say three dishes?

The Oldest HD customers that live in the East, used to have a Wing Dish for HD, Because the 129 wouldn't work for us. So We needed the 61.5.
Past Year + Eastern Arc came about for us folks in the East. So now we can have 1 Dish for all our programming, Except International.
Line of Sight issues are the only reason I can guess ,why they want a 3rd Dish.
Its no different then when D* required a new Dish for their HD when everyone had a Phase III already.
Well Wing Dish customers its time to upgrade.
