I had Dish and switched to Directv. I couldn't be happier with DTV. My daughter and my son-in-law have Dish, and they love it. Different strokes...

PLEASE don't tell me this backwater satellite company doesn't have the Travel Channel in HD!! Really? I mean REALLY??
Oh man. I hated giving up E*. Good service. Good hardware. I had heard bad things about DTV's HD box but I thought I could get around that (side note- HR23 is awful. sure hope none of you DTV subs are under the impression it's anywhere near as good as the VIP722. it's not even close).
I could have lived with that but for CRAPS sake, you really do not have Travel Channel HD??? Oh man, so much. Can even ONE of you tell me why I should keep this turd around and not figure out a way to get a Dish 500 mounted inside my new condo?
Go ahead mods. Go ahead and move this to the Warzone. I know no one goes there. Just wanted you DTV subs to know you are full of crap. Dish has a better service. And NO, the freaking HD picture does NOT look better on D*. grumble..
I don't know why you are wasting everybody's time with a post like this. It seems obvious you already knew that Directv didn't have the Travel channel in HD (this will change once D12 is fully operational) and yet you protest. Dish doesn't need you to be such an obvious fanboy. Lets leave it at both services have value to a particular sub and that is why we subscribe.

I spent 9 years with "D" and had the HR20 the same month it was released. Over a period of two years it was replaced 4 times and finally after several conversations with the "retention department" they finally told me I could get out of my contract and they wouldn't blame me if I did. I hung in there another 12 months before I finally switched to Dish. I hate to piss anybody off but IMO the 722 is light years above any of the HR DVR's from "D". The installers were 10 times more professional also. Dish has made the same stupid mistake with the 722K that "D" did with the HR21. Dropped the OTA plug in. The 722 allows me to record three shows at the same time. Sweet.

Like I said. I had "D" for a long time and the HR20 since it's inception. If I could see a PQ difference I would have stayed with "D". You can call it HD-Lite all you want but in this thread of over 106 posts, you are the first to re-dredge this old and untrue statement. I have many friend that have "D" and they cannot see any difference in the PQ. Do you have any recent test numbers to back up the HD-Lite statement?

Believe what you want, but it has been proven that DISH downrezzes their HD.
That is a Fact.

everyone does that including directv. i will admit that i do notice that the HD pic on directv is a little better than dish on large screens only. can't really notice the difference with a screen under 50".

Saying "that is a fact" without providing any numbers or sources is good advertising, but that's all it is.

People at DBSTalk have posted actual readings to show that they downrez much more than Direct. Even with this, I doubt most people will notice with just their naked eyes. Heck, most think that stretching SD on your TV makes it HD.

I am not sure that D* fools with the res. these days, they used to, but I think if we are strictly talking about resolution, D* leaves that alone (unless something changed that I am not aware of).
Now compression is a different story obviously.
I do agree that most of the time the difference in PQ is minimal, but I can "generally" tell a difference in the favor of Directv. Again, it is small though.

This thread is funny. 90% of the users posting in the thread are Directv customers defending why Directv is better for them. It's the War Zone forum, let him air out his opinion. Obviously, Dish Network is better for him.

It was in the Directv forum for alot of it, which is why you see alot of defending.
In any case, as you said, it is the war zone, what do you expect? People NOT defending? lol. That would defeat the purpose as well.

This post is funny. It's OK for a poster to rant and rave in the biggest font possible about DirecTV, but it's not OK for people to respond.

There is nothing in your post which provides a good reason why you gave up Dish? Good service, good hardware, AND you heard bad things about Directv's hardware? That just does not add up.
