View Full Version : Come on guys... really? (Dish installer left stuff on my roof)

So I had Dish come out to my place a couple weeks ago. I was in the back yard cleaning up the other day just doing some yardwork and burning some random stuff in the pit.
Happen to look up on the roof, and I've got an LNB and some other randon bits just sitting up on my roof. Long story short, I had some random signal issues so they changed me from EA to WA (or vice-versa) and also changed out the LNB. Guess I never noticed what he left with, but apparently it wasn't much.
Should I just climb up there and throw it all away? Worth anything to sell? Call them and tell them to climb up there and remove their garbage/equipment/whatever?

Call them and tell them to climb up there and remove their garbage/equipment/whatever?
That's what I would do.

They shouldn't have left that up there, my apologies for any inconvenience. If you are not able to get it down yourself (SAFELY!), please feel free to PM your phone number or account number and I'll get someone out there to get it off your roof.

I can get it no problems. I just know when you cancel your service they generally want the boxes and LNB's back don't they? With that thought, I figured they might want the LNB back or something. I can surely take it down and just toss it if there isn't an issue with that. (I'm not worried about them charging me or anything, just didn't know if they wanted it or not)

You wouldn't be charged for it. We only ask that the customer send the LNB/receivers back when an account is disconnected/canceled. I don't know if the LNB is any good, but not returning it to us won't effect you.
If/when you cancel, you'll give them the LNB that's attached to the dish currently. The tech may be req'd to turn in equipment that he/she swapped out and may get 'dinged' for this missing stuff. At this point, there's no way for him/her to remember leaving it on your roof and coming back after it.
Throw it away, by the way. The small amount you might get off of eBay, for instance, isn't worth the hassle of selling it.

True. Go toss it in your burn pit, a local lake, ocean, stream, river or someplace other than where garbage goes. About the only thing worth recycling is the plastic housing in which case you have to break to get it off. Typically when you break them apart they fly into a bunch of tiny pieces.

I remember training a new guy once long ago. He would take his stripped cable pieces & throw them on the ground. I point blank told him, "I don't care what you do when you're on your own, but on my jobs the trash goes in the trash". With that said if this tech needed what he left behind he would have been back by now. I say toss it..............in the trash.
Give it to goodwill or a thrift shop where it will sit on their shelf for years ! There, I corrected your post for you ! :D

It's interesting that the shipyards I worked in years ago that were the best producers were the ones that had work ethics that included leaving the shop and the shipboard work areas immaculate at the end of the shift.

I know I'm late to the party, but if it's true that a customer won't be charged for an unreturned LNB, then I think whoever is in charge of the website should remove the part where it says $50 for an unreturned LNB on the fees page. http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/fees (under disconnect related)

In this case, the LNB does not need to be returned. Forgive me if my last post was vague on details, but when an account is disconnected/canceled, the LNB does need to be returned

Two minutes on ebay or kijiji and it has a new home and saves someone getting a new one. And the OP may make a couple of bucks.
Or, throw a perfectly good lnb in the dump and let it sit there to rot for 300 years releasing toxins into the water table. Hmmmmmm.
Get off your environmental high-horse. How 'bout he throw it in his recycling bin ? Make you happy ?
How much stuff have you sold on eBay ? Two minutes ?

You may get it one day. Or maybe not. But your kids and grandkids will. I can list on kijiji in 2 minutes easily. ebay takes a couple more. I don't understand the notion of throwing a perfectly good lnb in the garbage. You think its fine and I vehemently disagree. Enough said.

Go get the LNB off your roof and put it on the shelf in your garage.
This way (For help us god) if you ever decide to cancel DISH Network, you have an LNB that you can return so your not charged.
You may get it one day. Or maybe not. But your kids and grandkids will. We fill (3) 32-gallon (and then some) recycle bins every two weeks. Know what you're talking about before running your mouth....

Exactly which toxins will an LNB leach into the groundwater?

Why does dish want the LNB back? there a dime a dozen. Is Charlie that paranoid that someone may use it for something else?

When I bought a new house a few years ago, I didn't use Dish Mover because I had a 3-month window where I wanted service active at both houses, so I just opened up a new account. When I finally cancelled service at my old house, they asked me to not only return the receivers but also to take down the dish and lnb and return them as well. When I told them that the roof was too high and dangerous for me to attempt to remove it, they told me to forget about it. My old house is now rented out (cuz of the poor sellers market), and the tenants are using Comcast instead of Dish. The dish still sits on top of the roof to this day.
I guess the point of my story is that when push comes to shove, Dish isn't going to care about the extra LNB that isn't even being used or is assigned to your account.

On my hybrid-to-EA upgrade, the installer let one of my LNBs get away from him. It slid down the roof a considerable distance, gaining speed along the way, and then fell 2 stories to my front entrance walkway, smashing itself to bits. We were lucky it didn't hit anybody.
I hope he didn't throw those pieces in the trash... :p

So dish does this just to aggravate you. I can see them telling Grandma to climb up on the roof and fetch the LNB.
It's been covered here ad nauseam that if you tell Dish "the LNB is on the roof and I can't access it" they will waive the requirement of returning it.

Put it out on the curb, someone will come by and take it. When I put stuff out on the curb someone, usually from Mexico, will come by and take it. Sometimes they ask me how much I want for it, I will try to get a few bucks for it but usually I tell them just take it, I don't want it.

Otherwise I'll probably just throw it in the garage with the rest of the stuff "that doesn't exist" out there. I like the idea of having a spare to send back if I ever do decide to cancel.
THANKS FOR VISITING!
