ABC-HD: NHL Hockey : Tampa Bay Lightning vs Calgary Flames Game 7 8PM ESTSean Mota 05-29-2004, 04:22 PM Title says it all... eschu97611 05-29-2004, 04:24 PM Title says it all...Sorry, more interesting watching the Lakers close out the Wolves tonight-5 more games until our 4th title in 5 years-Can you spell D.Y.N.A.S.T.Y. ? Enforcer 05-29-2004, 07:07 PM This broadcast is piss poor! The video is alright, but the audio is utterly horrible!! It sounds like they are talkin on a cellphone or a muffled sound! Anyone else experiencing this? Sean Mota 05-29-2004, 07:20 PM The audio is not 5.1 here in NYC. My receivers says 5.1 but I have no audio in the back speaker. ABC, c'ommon... do this right... Where are you located Enforcer? mattyro 05-29-2004, 07:25 PM there is nothing as exciting aa StanleyCupHockeyFinals. Period the end. I do not watch 1 minute of hockey in the reg season. I start watching around the confernce finals. These Stanley Cup finals are truly 60 minutes of end-to-end excitement. I dont care who is playing or anything else. I'll pass on the multimillionaire druggy/rapists/gang-banging/ebonics struggling/ NBA to watch the NHL finals. Although, I must admit the rule they added where 30% of the upper body must be covered in tattoos was a good rule. Those tatts look great in HD. Also seeing just how much Shaq sweats during the course of a game is interesting. Enforcer 05-29-2004, 07:41 PM Sean, I live in Lexington, KY. It shows dolby digital on my receiver as well, but it sounds like the audio is being broadcasted on a cellphone or something. It's horrible. I have my audio turned way up and i can barely hear it. Sean Mota 05-29-2004, 07:44 PM Wow! that's bad... I don't have the volume problem here. It is just that it is not DD5.1 but it's coming through my front speakers fine. Enforcer 05-29-2004, 07:48 PM The high def. is great, but the sound for some reason is bad. Dunno what the deal is. Sean Mota 05-29-2004, 07:58 PM Did you try to call the local engineer to see what's going on? Enforcer 05-29-2004, 08:05 PM I sent an email to their broadcast signal/engineering dept. Eager to receive a reply. Sean Mota 05-29-2004, 08:40 PM Calgary scores!!!! Intense game so far... eschu97611 05-29-2004, 08:43 PM there is nothing as exciting aa StanleyCupHockeyFinals. You know it babyyy-Go Lakers-lol btw-Don't forget to pass the dutchie on the LEFT HAND SIDE-LMAO Sean Mota 05-29-2004, 08:44 PM Calgary again!!!!! Enforcer 05-29-2004, 08:46 PM I couldn't believe Lecavlier dropped the gloves against igilna! vinnyv07 05-29-2004, 11:58 PM I thought the picture was just great tonight. Sound wasnt so good...but I thought it was one of the best looking hockey games I have seen. To compare itto HDNET's hockey....which is 1080 , HDNET is really super clear, but their cameras are just way to far from the action. ABC had their cameras close to the action which makes you feel every hit and every slapshot. I hate when the cameras are set so far away from the action. ABC was on the money tonight. All they have to do is to work on their sound issues and get us some 5.1. Thanks ABC!!! Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 07:12 PM Pre-game not in HD. Now I am wondering whether it will be in HD? Anybody got pre-game in HD? BFG 05-31-2004, 07:13 PM Sure did, and still in HD :) Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 07:17 PM Darn!! these people here at ABC what the heck are they doing? vurbano 05-31-2004, 07:23 PM Tampa has come to play it seems slater 05-31-2004, 07:26 PM Mine in in HD. Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 07:27 PM It looks like they all left for vacation and never bother to change to HD. What a joke? slater 05-31-2004, 07:27 PM Tomorrow my local ABC station goes up to full power. Enforcer 05-31-2004, 07:32 PM Sean, it seems my email to my local abc station worked, well at least somewhat. The audio is still lacking. It says circle surround 5.1, but still its not where it should be. It's not in HD where your at???? BFG 05-31-2004, 07:33 PM That's what there saying at avs, pretty funny when the main station WABC doesn't even flip the switch... Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 07:39 PM Here's the main number: 1.212.456.3100 I got to the main operator and all she could do was to put me through a voice mail. What a joke I though you could always get someone for these problems? I also sent an email to : eyewitness.news@abc.com in case someone picks it up and pass it to the correct person. So if you are in NYC, you want to make as much noise as possible to see if it reaches somebody. vurbano 05-31-2004, 07:42 PM What do you expect from a couple networks owned by a rabbit and a duck? DanB474 05-31-2004, 08:10 PM Sorry to be somewhat off topic, but how many hockey games does HDNet broadcast throughout the regular season? And is your local team blacked out? BTW, I am watching these Cal vs TB games on SD ABC here in Sacramento, and the audio is horrible in Cal..... maybe due to the extreme fan noise Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 08:14 PM Dan, welcome. I do not the exact number of games but I guess it will be more like 50. Yes your local team gets blacked out. BTW, 2nd period is in HD now in NYC... Enforcer 05-31-2004, 08:18 PM If I am not mistaken, there were NHL games every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday night. Don't quote me on the exact days, but normally there were at least 3 games per week. My local team, (favorite team Columbus Bluejackets) was available on both Fox Sports net and HDNET when it was broadcast in HD. In other words, HDNET broadcasts a crap load during the regular season. About 50 or so I believe. vinnyv07 05-31-2004, 08:41 PM Yes Sean...Im not receiving the game in HD either. ABC strikes out on this one, the whole first period without hd. I guess this is a NY problem? Who knows. I read that last week when ESPN had the finals on , it was the 19th most watched show on cable tv. An episode of THe Cosby Show actually was above the NHL finals. Nobody's watching. Sean Mota 05-31-2004, 08:42 PM Yes Sean...Im not receiving the game in HD either. ABC strikes out on this one. An episode of THe Cosby Show actually was above the NHL finals. Nobody's watching. They flipped the switch after 2nd half... DanB474 05-31-2004, 11:10 PM Awesome.......thanks guys! I just pre-ordered my 811 receiver. They're telling me possibly 6 weeks or so until it's in. No biggie I guess, it'll be here in time for next hockey season (assuming there is a next season :) )!!!!!! Are the HDNet broadcasts just rebroadcasts of Fox Sports Net feeds in HD, or are they ESPN feeds (doesn't make sense with ESPN HD available - unless they're ESPN2 non-HD games), or some no-name announcers that travel the country doing hockey broadcasts? Impatiently awaiting my HD receiver, Dan Enforcer 05-31-2004, 11:29 PM HDNET has their own uplink trucks for their broadcasts. ESPN and Fox SPorts net have their own as well. I take it that you haven't seen the quality of HDNET's hockey coverage?? You will be AMAZED! True HD picture quality. 1080i unlike ESPN-HD's 720p. ESPN-HD is nice, but HDNET has better camera angles and picture quality is unreal!! You will not be dissappointed. Hope you get your receiver soon! They told me 6 weeks and it was only 3 weeks if that before it was sitting in my living room. DanB474 05-31-2004, 11:36 PM Three Weeks!!!!????? Wow, now you're gettin me all excited :) lol. Who are the announcers for the HDNet hockey games? vinnyv07 06-01-2004, 03:03 AM Dont get me wrong ...HDNET has top picture quality when it comes to broacasting hockey or anything else for that matter. The next time you watch a hockey game on HDNET notice how far their cameras are away from the action. They are FAR. ABC's coverage has way more cameras and some get really up close. But ABC's picture quality cant compare with HDNET's, but if you give me a choice ...I would rather watch the game on ABC. HDNET's cameras seem miles away. Sean Mota 06-03-2004, 11:09 AM Keep your comments for tonight's game here. Thanks. Enforcer 06-03-2004, 12:55 PM HDNET is great, but I have to say, their game commentators are horrible! Jack Edwards is by far the worst game commentator I have ever heard. He talks about the actual game in progress MAYBE 20 minutes the entire game. They always get off on tangents outside the game. The camera angles are fine with me with the exception of the cameras do seem farther away from the action. Occasionally they will have on ice cameras by the boards. However, I will say the picture quality on HDNET is absolutely stunning! If ABC would get their act together and broadcast it in true 5.1 DD it would be outstanding. I talked with my local station concerning the non-5.1DD sound and he tells me since they were in Canada, they most likely 90% sure that they had to use some form of telephone or other means other than satellite transmission of the audio. Hopefully tonight in Tampa Bay they will use true 5.1DD. Can't wait to see and HEAR the game in its true form tonight. slacker9876 06-03-2004, 03:47 PM HDNet is a Loooong way off the ice for sure, that always bothered me. I like the games on ESPN-HD better, but I do not get ABC so I'll be SD'ing the game tonight, which is worse than HDNet as you might imagine. With Gary Betteman running off at the mouth I doubt there will be a season next year. Some are forcasting the the death of the NHL as a "major" sport if there is a lockout. That will last until Detroit & Toronto meet for the cup then the ratings will be through the roof. I am an AVS fan just for the record. I'll watch one way or the other but the NHL needs to loosen the blackout rules, I could care less who "owns" the game, if it is in HD I want to see it in HD, not on a local channel. Have not missed a Bronco game in 20 years due to blackout, though there are many I wish I had!!!! Blackouts STINK!!!! Share the feed you LOSERS! vurbano 06-03-2004, 04:59 PM Tonights game should be an all out war!!!!! I cant wait! Last time in tampa I expected the benches to clear. IF tampa gets way ahead again, the flames will start punching. Tampa needs to resist the urge for a bench clearing brawl if that happens. Hopefully the lightening can go up 3-2. BFG 06-03-2004, 07:29 PM dang already down by 1 :( Picture looks good tonight, The board cams look a little better than the ones in Calgary. I think the dreaded sky cam is not in Tampa either :) BFG 06-03-2004, 08:04 PM I guess no one else is watching  Well it's all tied up :) It appears that they do have the Sky Cam, but it hasn't been used in any of the live action and it looks a lot better than before (but still not HD) and I don't know if it's me or ABC but there's been a couple of dropouts as well rang1995 06-03-2004, 08:13 PM i am..too bad not more hockey on hd..shows it off well Sean Mota 06-03-2004, 08:30 PM I am watching... good game so far. Sean Mota 06-03-2004, 09:11 PM 2-2 all tie up... BFG 06-03-2004, 09:47 PM overtime HD hockey coverage... Go lightning! Sean Mota 06-03-2004, 10:05 PM Overtime changed to SD. These people here what the heck are they doing? Sean Mota 06-03-2004, 10:20 PM Finally, those B**** changed to HD... BFG 06-05-2004, 06:59 PM 5 mins till puck drop come on Tampa , don't let those dang Canadians take our cup! :D BFG 06-05-2004, 08:01 PM Good game, no score yet... To bad they don't do 5.1DD grr, If MNF can do it why can't the NHL crew do it. Maybe they'll finally get on the dolby switch when they start the new digital center, but that's probably wishful thinking, they must be getting paid by circle surround to do this crap neo0285 06-05-2004, 08:23 PM Game looks very good tonight! DanB474 06-06-2004, 02:48 AM I've been talking to my folks about getting HDTV hooked up through Dish, so what do they do? They get an HD box from Comcast and I hook it up today. Wow the Tampa - Calgary game looked great, for the most part. Every once in awhile (usually when going to a new camera angle or showing a replay) the picture would get very blurry - including the score graphic. Is this normal? Is it just an ABC thing? Or were they having problems? vurbano 06-06-2004, 07:26 AM What a game. wow. I didnt think Tampa was gonna come through. What a way to spoil the party!!!!!!! neo0285 06-06-2004, 07:29 AM awesome game, game 7 is going to be amazing vurbano 06-06-2004, 07:31 AM I've been talking to my folks about getting HDTV hooked up through Dish, so what do they do? Every once in awhile (usually when going to a new camera angle or showing a replay) the picture would get very blurry - including the score graphic. Is this normal? Is it just an ABC thing? Or were they having problems? It looked good here but, I guess it is time to explain the sad truth about affiliate HD. It all depends on your affiliate. If they multicast, ie, run some SD channels out of the HD bandwidth then your PQ is gonna suck. IS there anything you can do about it? NO. DO they have a monopoly of that content in your area? Yes. Is it illegal to have that? No. SHould be though. Can you watch that game somehow from another provider? Probably not, your affiliate will not allow it! Does this Tony Soprano business model need to be abolished? Damn right it does. vurbano 06-07-2004, 07:04 PM Its on baby. it doesnt get any better than this! Grinder 06-07-2004, 07:13 PM Nope...even tho Im a Pens fan. HD too, Nice. :yes slacker9876 06-07-2004, 07:42 PM Sure would be nice if Voom could get me channel 7 ... too bad ABC has the cup, I would rather ESPN, which is easily received via all sat networks. DAMN IT!!! TB SUCKS! astrossuperfan 06-07-2004, 08:02 PM The blurs between cameras are really bad. TB sucks! Go Flames! Htown doesn't have a NHL team. So I pick Calgary. :clap Edit: What's up with the Key-an-ou commercials? Get that no-talent-a$$-clown off my TV! Am I in the hockey matrix? astrossuperfan 06-07-2004, 08:05 PM I like that the game is in HD, I don't like that the camera blurs between EVERY SINGLE SHOT! Go Flames! http://www.adgraphics.com/images/3ddesign/CanadaFlagAnimated7552.gif Sean Mota 06-07-2004, 09:35 PM Calgary is desperate now...
