Coming on March 25th on Discovery HD. I saw the pilot back in January I think and it was unbelievable, some of the best footage I've ever seen. Set your Dvr's.

FYI: Read a review of the series today. The first episode is apparently a bit disjointed, as its something of a summary of the rest of the series. But they raved about all the rest. So if you dislike the first one, give it at least a second look.

In setting up my DISH ViP622 to record this series, I found that choosing the option to record "New Episode" events does not work because the programming guide shows the first three 'episodes' on tonight (3/25) are "Not New Episodes" and carry an "Original Air Date" of 8/20/2006. I wound up scheduling tonight's three episodes as Manual Timers; also scheduled the two episodes due on 4/1/2007 manually also. A little more work on the front end, but seems to simplify the scheduling (at least in my mind....).

Yes, this was excellent. Watched episode 1 and part of episode 2.
Discovery HD has always had great nature visuals. One of the first things I ever recorded in HD was "The Miracle of the Pantanal," a one hour documentary that is still on my DVR.
These planet earth shows are going to be hard to delete.

This show is incredible.
Did anybody but me notice a few times where the picture corrupted then skipped ahead a few seconds? I reported it in the L401 bug discussion just in case it was that.

Yes, but I doubt it was the 622. It was most likely just Dish's feed. :(

Is the Dish guide wrong on this series? They aired episodes 1, 2 and 3 on 03/25/07. But looking ahead to 04/01/07, they are showing 4, 5 and 7. What about no. 6? The guide detail on this series is confusing, also with the original air dates mentioned above.

Tough choice indeed! We were just blown away, not only by the visuals, but by the "never before seen" events, like the snow leopard on the hunt. Absolutely why HDTV was invented:)

My nine year old told me that Planet Earth was a hit with his 3rd Grade class last night.
Then again, so is Idol...
(Watching episode 2 right now).
As far as Ep 4, 5 and 7: HDTVMagazine only shows two episodes on the 1st; Deserts and Ice Worlds. But from Wikipedia's listing on the show (which started on the BBC) it does not look like Discovery is showing it in the same order.
This show is incredible.

I saw this also on my 942, but it was raining at the time. I guess it must have been a bad Dish feed if others also saw it.

Saw this series in HD from the BBC when i was in the UK ... the Discovery channel version has a few scenes cut out to make it better fit around the ads ... the commentary is also dumbed down and isn't nearly as interesting as the BBC version who had the excellent David Attenborough narrating.
HD DVD of the BBC version is available the end of this month .. well worth the $$'s.

I was wondering why, since it was a BBC production, they had an American woman narrating.

Apparently its Sigourney Weaver of all people.
Not the first person that springs to mind when you think of someone to narrate a stunning documentary series like this.
Amazon appear to have the hd dvd's available for pre-order for $70 .. compared to $56 for regular dvd's. No contest.
