VideoReDo is a nice prgram to edit with. it will auto remove most commercials in about 5-10 min on it's own. but i watch it just in case.
another good program is handbrake (it free) wiil let rencode to a smaller more useable file size.

    Concord,

The DVD Santa was one that I was beginning to investigate. Found it listed in many areas. I also already have ANYDVD and CLONE DVD and CLONE CD from SlySoft. These programs might come in handy along the way. I use them often.

    Thanks,

    MadMadWorld,

Thanks for the info on the VideoReDo. That might be right up my alley (being able to edit out commercials).

    Thanks,

some good news on the az Premium i have a smile on my face see it ?
well Mr Concord how does it feel to make me happy ?because you have. this must be the software for dummys like me. because it worked for me.

Access to Ext2/Ext3 from Windows XP

    and it free
it is soo easy. not super fast so take your time let it read the drives. then open that Linux drive find your file hi-lite it then hit that save button in the middle of the page top and it will ask you where you want it to go and pick a place and Bam it just goes to work for you.
i think you can right click the save too did not try it but seen it there.
maybe Mr Concord i don't wake up wth a head ach tomorrow. like i did today twice in the last 2 weeks. and i get some good sleep.
now on to adding a fan to this unit it does get a little warm. will post this job with some pic's as it gets done.
plus i got to see a 422 game today that was 420 all season till now so az getting better for me all around.

did i thank Mr Concord enough i don't think so.

    The Fan

    my fan install
    parts used
    fan 80 x80x 25cm
    RCA cable
    Good 3M black electrical tape
    velcro
    peanuts shipping foam
    dremel tool
    _____________________
strip the RCA cable carefully(a first for me).
note one wire is bare inside.in pic 1 i have already rolled it up.
wire it to the fan(center red)

    ________________________________________________
cut a small slice out of the back of the unit with the dremel tool smooth as you can then add a piece of tape over it to keep wire from getting cut/sliced.
    _________________________________________________________
used 2 peanuts shipping foam for the front feet with velcro to the fan. back of fan another piece of velcro to that rubber post (make sure to stay below this rubber post or the lid won't fit)and a very small piece on the heat sink.this keeps the fan from hitting the heat sink. i had to cut the one pictured in half or less . it was hitting the fan. forgot to get a pic of that.
    ____________________________________________
to get power to the fan
    setting>tv channels>dvbs>antenna setup>0/12v switch>to the RIGHT 12v
it works to the left did not test but guess it reverse the polarity.
    _____________________________________________
now this power to the fan must be done on every sat or it will not work.
nice of the AZ people to have this power plug good idea.
that fan moves some air now my AZ is chillin.
    ______________
good to have the lid back on it sitting here 2 weeks naked lol

While using a fun is good idea in general, but installing it inside ( with no intake from ambient air ) is very bad idea. From engineering ant thermodynamic stand points.

Proper position will be on back side or on top cover where do cut round hole or drilled many small holes. See my design [and results] in a '622/722 is hot' thread.

    and it free.
I played with both IFS and Linux-Reader programs when I had a MythTv setup and needed to transfer the .ts files to my MS laptop. IFS seemed faster, but I was only dealing with a small hard drive.

I take it that the AZ prem box gets too hot, thus your mod.

    it is much cooler now.
with the HD in it i get a bit scared of it heating up. lost a hard drive a few years back in a usb box with no fan. now i won't buy one unless it has a fan that's for sure.
heck i put fans on top of all the hi-def boxes i got can't hurt. the sv-8000 is a hotty and it is a killer of those.
    thanks again for that reader

I think all of us who have HD boxes have coolers of some sort on them. Its just common sense to keep them cool if you want them to last. Laptop coolers work great for those of us not comfortable with opening the cover of our boxes and making wiring connections....

Plus with a laptop cooler you can have a nice usb hub if you want...
