It is an exciting read that also shows how important Blu-ray is for Sony. In the end, you could say that the only company that simply could NOT afford to loose won it in the end.
| Even professional journalists are starting to misspell "lose".

| | I think Microsoft not putting the HD DVD inside the Xbox 360 was also a major reason why Sony won. Considering that ultimately the Xbox may have to include a HDM player why not just fully support the side you chose to push them over the top. Now what are they going to do for the Xbox 720???? Surely a player expected to last close to 2020 can’t be released with just DVD. Not to mention that games/graphics will out grow DVD. How dumb was it for them not to support the future that was clearly staring them in the face. Now they’ll probably crawl to Sony and pay out the a$$ for licensing fees. |

The 360 came out in late 2005, and it was expensive enough at the time. They probably thought it was better to make the HD-DVD thing an OPTION for consumers, as opposed to requiring people to pay extra for something that they may end up never using.

M$ has never really cared about HD on disc. They are only interested in HD downloads on the internet and the so-called HDM war just gave them a little more time to flesh out their product. Only folks that really got burned in the mess was the consumer. Those that bought into HD-DVD, those that bought first gen BD players for a ton of money and those that are still waiting for a serious HD product from the internet.
It is like those folks still waiting for the price of HDTVs to come down. Just how cheap does it have to get? Just helped my uncle buy his first HDTV (Samsung 52" LCD 650 series) and he loves it. He is very glad to have his set and even my aunt is enjoying the set.
Everyone just needs to move on to whatever medium suits you and try to enjoy your investments -- life is way too short.
