So is this kind of stuff not expected to need a special player too, just a TV with certain specs/features?

I can see Sony throwing a fit or causing a permanent divide in this 3d stuff is the PS3 isn't able to do it, they've already said PS3s will be able to play 3D Blu-Ray by mid 2010. Guessing they figure that's how they'll pump up their TV business.... convince people they need new ones for 3D.
