Well Standby overtime is is not paid a normal "overtime" rate. Its almost double. At about 16.50/hr standby overtime pay is near 29$/hr. Also you get paid for being on call, which during storm season you get 4 a check which is around 125$ or more per check just for being on call. Not to mention Sunday is a premium pay and you work at least 1 sunday a month, so that 8 hours on sunday is near 23-24/hr.

The two making 60k+ are in the 17/hr range. Most "Maintenence Techs" make around 15$/hr and easily pull in over 40k Some more some less, (Some guys give up their standby because they dont want to work and are happy with straight 80 hours, others pick up more stand by because they need the money more) Those 2 techs I know of personnaly who make 60k+ are ones who pick up other techs standby which brings their standby pay higher then the normal 125$/2weeks. Plus they normally always pick up sundays, which is 16hours a check at over 20$/hr (depending on base pay)

Its not that far fetched and you do not have to work 80hours a week to get it. You do work 6days a week, (of course this year they are making you take your 2 days off a week so that 60k may not be reached because of them cutting back on overtime) but in years past it was a relativly easy goal to make...

I always thought tampa made better pay then orlando. During the 4 hurricanes, I remember talking to techs from Tampa who came to help us and they always had a higher rate then us. That year because of all of us bitching that tampa made so much they gave all of us techs in Orlando a big raise which they said "brought us to tampa rates"

    Go figure.

Kudos to you as a hard working knowledgeable BHN tech. You clearly go above and beyond and seem to be rewarded for your hard work. Had that union passed, things might have gotten a lot worse for a hard working individual as yourself. But you are in Orlando, so I guess that union vote didn't have an impact on you yet anyway.

    Keep up the good work.

The minimum requirements to work at most all (including BHN) call centers is a high school diploma. Aside from that they are trained to deal with "Most all common calls", they do have tier levels with reps who have been their longer, who can handle almost all issues. But call 10 times in a row youd be lucky to find someone whos been their longer then a year in those 10 calls.

As far as resumes go, when you have to have 300 positions filled, you get real slim pickens as to the pool of workers you can pick from. When staffing a call center you have to base a lot of it on personality, because you need to know they can communicate well with people. Thats the toughest part of the job, the technical stuff can be taught. In your example of "ping" who knows if the person you spoke to was a simple level1 tech their job is to take orders process them, setup work orders etc. And they have a computer that tells them basic troubleshooting stuff and steps they need to go through.
    Good luck... cool...
