Most company's want you to have Satellite Installation experience of at least two years before they allow you to install Hughes. If you find a company willing to hire you without the experience level than they probably won't have a workload big enough to keep you busy. Your best bet would be to Install Dish or Direct for a while and learn that and then move up. That's how I did it!

From my observations, prior satellite TV installation experience can be just as much a hindrance as it can a help. I've encountered too many old school installers who've blatantly ignore what they were taught in HughesNet/WildBlue/Starband certification training instructions because "well, that's just not the way it's done". This group doesn't seem to be able to come to terms with what difference a transmitter makes to the configuration.

That's not to say one can't be both a good ROTV installer and a good satellite internet installer. It's just that I've encountered a discouraging number of ROTV guys that can't (or won't) adapt. That said, I don't personally see anything wrong with going into two-way training without prior ROTV experience.

Here are 3 to start with:

WildBlue | Dealers / Installers | Installation Training

How do I become a certified StarBand installer?

The only problem is that most company's prefer you to have previous installation experience and some require pictures and references so just having a certification isn't exactly a plus. I know people who took the course and got the certificate and can't Install worth a flip!

    Hughes Net Certification

2 options to become certified - 1. Become a dealer , take the online modules then attend a 1 day class. 2. Get a dealer to put you on his list of installers, take the online modules, then attend the 1 day class. Either way, you have to go through a Hughes Distributor.

There are some hoops to jump through. Hughes is a completely different animal compared to Dish or DirecTV. Good luck.
