    Forum restructure???

    ADVERTS 1
Ok, some people may think I'm nuts... but I'll suggest it anyway......

The "4dtv forum" should be right out front with the main providers...

If I had known sooner about it, I would have skipped the whole DN DTV shopping around thing, and just picked out the Channels I actually watch...

It seems to me that the 4dtv Section is buried in the back closet!!!

    Not a bad idea.

I've never thought it belonged in FTA

Why wouldnt it belong in FTA? You can get DCII FTA too

Originally it was part of the C-Band area but then we had too much confusion between 4DTV & regular C-Band. So we broke it off to its own area and moved most of the 4DTV stuff ot its own area.

The 4DTV is not "buried in the back closet" as you put it. It clearly says on the front page
"Discussion of KU and C Band Free to Air (FTA) Satellite Equipment and reception"

so folks can see it. We are right there with the Dish & Directv area in on easy to find spot
Winegard 76cm dish, SG2100 motor, Sadoun dual KU LNB..... Directv Slimline SWM 3 LNB.... GeoSatPro 36" dish with Sadoun dual KU LNB... Coolsat 5000 on motorized.... Manhattan RS1933....Directv HR34 (yes the 5 tuner monster) GeoSatPro 200 to aim dishes.... few receivers not set up yet
Two 6 foot Fortec dish with GeoSatPro dual C-Band LNB "ghetto moved" to various C-Band satellites

I don't really have a problem with where it is at, I generaly start with FTA shack, then go the C band, then 4Dtv, there are threads in all of them that I keep track of.

I think that it should be on the main providers. Only because perhaps it could add more subs.

With respect Iceberg there is not much DCII fta and its not like DVB its a pain to get which makes it a fun hobby.

However I believe their are some people how have no idea that 4dtv is even available.

There are hundreds of FTA DCII channels. Yes, there are fewer DCII than DVB, but there are also fewer encrypted DCIIs too, so the argument that DCII FTA is insignificant is more appropriately a reason not even to have a 4DTV section, because the lifetime of subscription 4DTV is certainly limited, while FTA DCII will be around longer than subscription 4DTV.

Putting the 4DTV section up front would basically mean that it wouldn't be read by a large percentage of the viewers here, who skip the main entrance and go straight to the FTA section. It would end up being orphaned.

What I would prefer to see, is something like what they used to have at the Sadoun forum back when I read that (not sure if it's still that way or not, as I haven't read that group for a couple years, but I know that they changed it a bit forcing you to see some advertising sub-forums that you couldn't unselect... ), but they had a function where you could select the various sub-forums you were interested in, and there was a setting where it would give you all the NEW messages from each of your selected sub forums. That way, you don't have to load up each of a half dozen sub forums (which takes a good 5 minutes for them to load for me, thanks to all the annoying advertisements) just to see what messages are available. I could load up the one new messages page, which would have new messages from ALL the subforums I've selected. Not sure that this might already be available here, but I couldn't find the option.
But if there were a function like this to display all or new messages from selected sub forums, it wouldn't matter to people where the forum was actually located in the tree structure.

I guess it is what it is.. or, is where it is

I gotta see these 100's of fta DC2 channels.. I know nobody can list them.. Im guessing they don't show up in the guide, thats why people don't know there even there....

To be fair everyone had valid points on the place of 4dtv...
My main point was the fact that it is also a "Superscription Service"

There is FTA DC-2 stuff out there between the American and Canadian satellites. You have to look through the satellites with a 4D to find them all. The main cable channels are subscription or not available to us.
