New to siteand have a Old/Big Dish question!

    ADVERTS 1
Hello from NC- I came upon this site by accident on the web while I was looking up how to "recycle" an old Dish in our yard. Does anyone know what to do or who would want a large, not in use satellite dish with a Superjack II+?? We hate the thought of this technological piece just being trashed! And as far as ideas, I don't mean to "turn it into a koi pond or a big umbrella!" ;} But thank you in advance for any direction or contacts you could advise of!

    Hi and Welcome!!!

Well what I would do with it is use it!
There is a lot of programming still available on C-Band (big old dish) but now probably 99% of it has switched to digital meaning that whatever old analog receiver you might have is no longer capable of bringing in the signal.
Good news is that there are many good FTA (free to air) receivers that are quite compatible with your big old dish (we call 'em BUDs around here).

There is a link to "the list" at the top of the screen, click on that and have a look around at all the C-Band programming that is in the clear. You may find something you are interested in. It is all free and completely legal to receive.

If you are not interested there is probably a member of this site in your area that is interested in harvesting your dish for their own use. There are other uses for old dishes but because this is a satellite site and people take the wanton destruction of a working dish very seriously I won't discuss them here

    welcome and thanks:

We usually have two or more "strangers" a year, come by looking to find someone who'd want their dish.
We do try to turn them into "friends" who'll stay and enjoy the old dishes, but we also have a good luck at finding new homes for these beauties.

Post us some pictures front/back/motor/long shot/under the hood, etc. if at all possible.
Whatever names 'n numbers are on the pieces, will help, too.

We have a pretty good success rate at finding new homes for 'em, and someone to come haul away your trash without charging you a dump fee.
They all go to loving homes, to renew their life as satellite suckin' dish antennas! -

Even more often, we'll find a dish that's available but we just can't use, and it will also get posted here!
Some members even hunt down dishes for their friends in other states and offer 'em up.

Very friendly forum here, so even if you don't want to hang with us satellite afficianados, you might find a home in the DishNetwork, DirecTV, Cable, or OTA departments. -
