Conan the Barbarian (if the same transfer as a few weeks ago, which is highly likely) is not OAR, and is Dolby Surround, rather than the newer Dolby 5.1 remastering.

Gladiator is a good quality HD transfer.

Patton is:

- First time in HD (this is probably the same transfer which should appear soon on Blu-Ray)
- Originally filmed in 70mm and 6 channel sound, so the transfer should look very good
- One of the best all-time acting performances by George C. Scott as General Patton.
- One of the best WWII films or war films in general
- Screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola (among others), based on actual letters and autobiography of General Bradley.
- Biography of a pivotal figure in history
- IMDB # 183
- exactly the length of the time slot allocated in the DVR, so be sure to add a little time to the end.

Unfortunately, Patton was not shown OAR on Cinemax-HD, they instead filled the screen.

Sean - do you happen to have an actual email of someone at Cinemax, where I can politely ask that they show films at OAR ? Thanks.

It's not quite as much of a difference when they crop a 2.20:1 film to fit a 16:9 screen as when they pan and scan a 2:20:1 film to fit a 4:3 screen !

But it's still wrong - and when you have a 40 or 50 inch LCD, an inch of black at top and bottom is no big deal...
