The rumored existence of a huge pink diamond sets off a wild, violent hunt amid the bloody civil war in Sierra Leone in 1999. Leonardo DiCaprio earned a 2006 Best Actor Oscar® nomination for his performance as a gun-runner who enlists an unlikely partner to find it: the humble fisherman who found and buried the stone. Jennifer Connelly co-stars as a photojournalist out to expose the country's illegal diamond trade; and Djimon Hounsou was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar® for his portrayal of the quiet fisherman who is forced into slavery by local rebels only to discover the priceless jewel. Also with Michael Sheen and Arnold Vosloo. Directed by Edward Zwick; screenplay by Charles Leavitt; story by Charles Leavitt and C. Gaby Mitchell. (R) (AL,GV)

Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz each portray three different characters from three different times--a 16th-century search for the biblical "Tree of Life," a distant future in which a lone man travels through space in search of life's origins, and a present-day tale that connects past and future through the story of a man's search for a cure to his wife's terminal illness. Ellen Burstyn co-stars in this compelling film. Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky; story by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel. (PG13) (AC,AL,V)

Walter quickly begins to see strange parallels between the novel's events and those of his own life--including the fact that everything is linked to the number 23. His obsession begins a frightening descent that leaves Walter facing a shocking reality--a twist that will leave viewers stunned. Logan Lerman and Danny Huston co-star in this thriller. Directed by Joel Schumacher; written by Fernley Phillips. (R) (AC,AL,V)

recorded Grease in OAR on Cinemax but no 5.1 audio. The 5.1 audio would have been great. This one is going to archive. Classic!

"Children of Men" is premiering tonight at 8 p.m. on HBO HD. I've been wanting to see it in HD, but it's only available in HD DVD and I'm a PS3 owner, so I'm very happy.

I just wish HBO would promote these other premieres as much as they do the Sat. night ones. (Norbit? puleeze) I've found some great movies premiering at weird times by scrolling through my DVR's on-screen guide. I found "Pan's Labyrinth" airing for the first time in late night in the middle of the week that way.

Do NOT watch "The Fountain". I repeat, do NOT watch "The Fountain". About 30 minutes into the movie, we have to turn it off. We have never stop watching a DVD in the middle that I can remember. It is that bad. You have been warned!
