COMCAST over 1000+ HD channels byt he end of '08? ADVERTS 1
I was just watching G4 tv and the CEO of COMCAST at CES 2008, stated along with the set top cable box dissappering and a new Y-fy internet connection (downloaded a 2.5 hour transformers movie in 4 min.), they will have 1000+ HD channel offerings available by the end of the year.
If this is true, along with the supped up internet and a FREE HD-DVR, I will drop D* as soon as I see it available!

True they won't all be brocasted in HD right away, but can you imagine the potential?

docsis 3.0 is to be given credit for this I believe. I would still be with time warner if it werent for their navagaitor software...and if I knew for sure HD tivo would get the job done on switch video I would think about it, but cable is going to be able to keep up (sorta) if they all have their networks in order...the problem is, my green, ohio connection isnt even the same as what it was when I lived 10 minutes down the street

It's not channels that they're saying but 'Choices', "Comcast will offer more than 1,000 high-definition choices ..." from
Comcast Promises 1,000 HD Channels by Year End - TVWeek - News
. They'll be doing this via Video on Demand.
I saw the slide that they showed at the press conf, they showed DirecTV with 150 channels and their side with 1000 Choices.

I know cable is counting on SDV to help with their bandwidth issue, TWC in Austin has been using it for awhile now (IIRC Austin was their test bed). Now if TWC would just add some of the HD content that D* has now ti might show they are serious about staying competitive. The same could happen with Comcast, have the capacity but for whatever reason they push VoD content vs. adding channels.

yep, 100% agree with you Rad, I have TWC here in Northeast Ohio, and they as a whole are saying they are going to add HD, but they seem to be commited to VOD (which my wife and I loved, it worked pretty much 100% of the time) but also I know I would have also liked to see more HD, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt as it takes a long time to change a system that has been in place for many many years.
