Skandor Akbar passes away
ADVERTS 1
R.I.P.
Legendary pro wrestling manager and in-ring performer Jim Wheba, more famously known as General Skandor Akbar, passed away this past Thursday, August 19, at age 75.
Until recently, Wheba was still an active performer in the wrestling industry, working random independent shows as a wrestling manager in such markets as Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Wheba started off as a protege of Danny Hodge, a man who is still today viewed alongside Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar as one of the most legitimate "tough guys" in wrestling history. Wheba would go on to become a rival of Hodge in the business, working matches against him in the 1960s for the NWA Junior Heavyweight title.
Wheba will likely be most remembered for his General Skandor Akbar character, which gained him the most notoriety in his career during his run in both Mid-South Wrestling and World Class Championship Wrestling.
