Rainbow to launch first HD gay net

Rainbow Media has set June 1 as the launch date for Divine HD, a high-definition channel targeted to gay and lesbian audiences.
The network will debut exclusively on VOOM as part of the Rainbow-backed DBS service's Cinema 10 suite.
Divine HD will feature films starring gay icons, musicals and other flicks "with overt and underlying gay themes." Films already procured include The Producers, The Divine Miss M, Les Cage aux Folles 1 and 2, The Birdcage and Outrageous.
The network plans to expand programming beyond movies to include theater productions and stand-up specials shot in HD "in the coming months."
