Buying a SA DVR box

I found a Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR on e bay and was thinking about buying it but have some questions. Will it work w/out getting the digital navigation thing for 4.95 a month from cablevision? Also, would there be any other services i'd have to order in order for the DVR to work? Thanks!

They will not authorize a SA box to work on your account that you don't get from them. Save your money.
