There is no other commitment and it's two Digital cable boxes free for two years for TV's that currently don't have boxes.

OK, just so we don't get our panties in a wad...

The cableboxes that were given to my neighbor certainly dealt with digital cable input. They both were not capabile of an HD output, though. They had composite video outputs, as well as 'analog channel 3' outputs.

I was making a point that the boxes didn't have HD-output capability. This would include component-video or HDMI outputs.

I just read the attachment of a sample CV customer letter. It notes a 'buy 1, get 2 free' offer ONLY IF you ask for it by May 18. The 'free' part runs out in 2 years.

My neighbor got a different deal. She just got two 'non-HD output' cableboxes for free; but she didn't have to purchase anything new. I don't know anything else about the deal she got. I was just advising that you might be able to get a CV box without any new commitment.

If you want an hd box, you have to ask for it. They don't assume you have an hd tv.
If your neighbor has an hd tv and wants to switch, the easiest thing to do is bring the old box to a customer service center and switch it.
