There is one other difference here in the US.

We are only allowed to receive our local NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, PBS Channels. In Canada, nobody has an issue with the fact that via satellite you can watch CBC, CTV from any region you want.

I also expect the PBS stations would scream out if we were allowed the whole Bell TV portfolio of PBS (East and West) along with TVO, Know TV, Access and SCN. Though the latter ones are not HD I often find their programing of more interest.

The border PBS stations have no problem labelling themselves as cross border services when it comes to hawking for $$$. Worst offender by far is WTVS Detroit - send us your money Newfoundland, we'll give you 20 more hours of those incessant old MoTown infommercials.

That's because in Canada, almost all affiliates are Owned & Operated by the Network. Therefore there is no money lost when someone watches another affiliate of the same network. In the U.S. the opposite is true.

Also, CTV & Global would be almost unwatchable in the U.S., as SynDex would black out almost everything in primetime, or even during the day.
CBC would probably be the only realistic network to show, but even then it would have to be one free of U.S. programming, like the Windsor affiliate which is free of it in order to be on Detroit cable.

Cable stations would also be as butchered as the Candian versions of U.S. networks are now (aka, Spike), due to programming rights.

Didn't Dish Network buy Voom and now DN has the Voom channels on them???

What gives you the idea that Windsor affiliate of CBC is any different than the Toronto version of CBC which almost all of upstate New York receives?

The only time the local cable companys (TWC) block any programing from CTV or CBC is when the same exact programing is being offered at the same exact time on U.S. Networks in the DMA.

Who wouldn't rather watch Hockey Night In Canada coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Oh, btw they are never blocked out in the Buffalo Area, even though NBC or Versus would be covering the same exact game.

bro, it is. CBC Windsor doesn't show American Shows, like "Ghost Whisperer" "wheel of Fortune" or "Jeopardy". Check CBC's website to compare the Windsor and TO schedules.

I watched Jeopardy on cbc out of Toronto on Tuesday, and that was on TWC, not OTA which I could get if needed.

word...Windsor CBC is different from the rest of Canada, but NOT for the reason that Derwin said. CBET is considered part of the Detroit market, whereas Toronto and Buffalo are separate markets, even if one can receive the other's stations OTA. wiki CBET, it explains it. again, compare the schedules. I lived there, so I'm not coming out of left field.

People don't seem to understand that TV stations and broadcasters only have licensing rights to certain TV shows in either the USA for US TV stations and Canada for Canadian TV stations, Canadian TV stations buy the rights to a show for Canada, for example : American Idol is on CTV in Canada as FOX sells the rights to CTV for AI to be broadcast in Canada, this and other TV show rights are bought and sold like this, so CBS to show Big Brother is only permitted to be shown in the USA and any area that CBS has rights to, Canada is not one of those countries and the owners of Big Brother sell the rights to Global TV in Canada. Now when it's shown on a CBS station that broadcasts in Canada, the local Global Station is allowed to simsub it by broadcating their feed of BB over the CBS feed in Canada.

So this is the main reason why Can providers are not permitted to authorize subs in the USA and vice versa.

not to mention the rights to do business in the respective countries and of course in Canada, the CRTC has total control of Can providers and no control on USA providers.
