DSR-630
ADVERTS 1
Any news as to when the DSR-630 will be released?
I am wondering if you will be able to use the same dish that the DSR-505 uses.

The dish will not change. Some have posted that a spring or summer release may happen but with SD things really get delayed and then they get delayed again and again.

I heard that the 630 has been cancelled due to Motorola not being able to guarantee Shaw the specified quality control of outsourced component parts. It has been determined that component variances was the major flaw that caused so many short lifed 530s. The 605 is still in development. They need a MPEG4 receiver asap or they will have 0 French HD customers this time next year.

Don't forget the software...
SD's inept programming department will have to come up with software for a new box and this will take forever. Add this to the fact that they will have to replace headend equipment at their business customers if they go mpeg4 and you have a recipe for disaster. Maybe 2014?

The 630 is either "on hold" or "cancelled" due to the base code not supporting multi channeling recording. What "brain" at Shaw purchased this? - obviously not someone who has a clue about the real world in the satellite business.
The 605 will be released as soon as firmware testing is complete as SBS must change some F2 transponders to MPEG4 in order for Shaw to master distribute the old Atlantis Alliance channels (HDTV, History, Food) in HD as Shaw will have control of these channels if the bankruptcy court + CRTC approves.
Motorola has been delivering DVB-S2 MPEG4 capable receivers to cable head ends in Canada for the last 18 months.Last edited by Jumbo Dumbo; 02-21-2010 at 11:06 AM.
