    9242 REBOOT PROBLEMS ANYONE?

    ADVERTS 1
Both my 9242's are rebooting like mad today, one BELL agent said there is new firmware (V186) in the stream to resolve the issue, but I was unable to download it in 3 hours of trying, another agent said they are aware of this being a software/firmware issue that they are working on, and another agent told me I had to replace both receivers. lol.

I might believe it was a hardware issue if it wasn't for the fact that BOTH my receivers are rebooting themselves. Is anybody else in the same boat? The only way I can stop the rebooting cycle is to unplug the receiver for a minute.

I love the 9242, but man, it seems like BELL has some work to do with these last two firmware "upgrades", if you can call them that.

If you turn the receiver off and it does not start to download a new software version within 3 or 4 minutes, there is no upgrade to be had for that receiver.

Yes, I've done firmware upgrades many times with DISHNET and BELL, has always taken 3-20 minutes maximum. It's kind of tough to upgrade to V186 firmware when it doesn't exist. Just an example of BELL's customer service, making up stories.

I unplugged both receivers for 10 minutes, I formatted the hard drives on both, I also erased the RAM on both. I haven't had an issue since. I don't know if BELL was having corrupt data in the stream the last few days or what, but so far so good last night and today.

I have seen other people with 9242's complaining about this on other sites, so I know I'm not alone in this at least.

I have never had to wait 20 minutes for a download to begin, that would suggest a signal level issue to me.

Maybe not with BELL or the new 92xx receivers, but with the old 2700's or 501's on Dishnet, I'd often have to wait 15-20 minutes for the firmware to "catch". I've always had high end signals with all my equipment. From what I understand they stream the firmware every 20-30 minutes. I don't see how they can stream the firmware every minute or two. But maybe I'm wrong.

Anyways, regarding the thread topic, there is no V186 firmware (like a BELL agent told me) and the restarting has stopped now, so it must've been something in the stream that has cleared up.

This same agent also told me that V187 firmware is out for the 9241's... again, obviously a lie, because after researching, the 9241's are already at V235 or higher. Ridiculous what some of these agents tell you. They could be fairy tale writers.

So what was it, did you let the thing get more air circulation, as was suggested at the other site that you started the same topic and found out that no one else was having the same problem? I doubt it was "something in the stream" because you were the only one with an issue.
    Don't you look at me!

I wasn't the only one with the issue, both my receivers were doing it, my friend's 9242 was doing it and there were multiple posts regarding it on Saturday/Sunday on a couple forums.

After speaking to a high level BELL tech this morning, he told me that the HD PVR's are prone to some sort of "corruption" and restarts are common with the 92xx receivers. He said the fact I unplugged it for 20-30 minutes was probably the reason it started working again. I really don't care whether it was something in the stream or the fact I unplugged it. It has been working for almost 48 hours now... so I'm just happy I don't have fubar'd $600 receivers. I did a hard reset, I unplugged, I formatted, I cleared the RAM, so one of those things fixed the problem.

Having BELL say "its' a known software issue, we're working on it" or having another one say "there's new firmware to fix it" when there wasn't, doesn't help my knowledge level any as to what caused it.

All I know is it's frustrating phoning SKY-DISH!!!

No surprise the Bell CSRs lied to you. They do that to get you off the phone. They are trained to get rid of you as soon as possible.

Well the Exec. Office must like cleaning up all their messes, cuz I just got free NHL for the last month for this problem. I don't know why they have to run such a loose ship. If I'm having internet problems, I phone my cable company and they actually know what a modem is.
