You can do the same thing directly from googlemaps. 'maps.google.com'

Why do we need a middle man?

It gives you the ability to set up a route and then auto-drive it without constantly hitting the arrow keys. It's kind of slow and jerky, but less of a hassle than doing it manually.

Google maps seems to do exactly the same thing. You set up driving directions, it tells you the route. You click on any step and it shows you a map of the area and a photo of the street/intersection, if available.

Yes, but this app has an extra button called drive that puts you in street view and drives to the destination. It basically sequences through every street view picture from start to finish. Kind of gimmicky, but it is something Google doesn't have yet.

I've tried this in both IE and Firefox and can't find this extra 'Drive' button. I only see a 'Print Driving Directions' button. ???

Look at the instructions. It is clumsy and not obvious.

    1. enter an address for point A
    2. Click somewhere else on the map.
    3. Push Route. Driving instructions and a drive button will appear. Note both start and end locations need to have streetview
    4. Press drive. You can vary the driving speed through the dropdown box.

yes but for a local solution it is great, even outside of the USA - see our map below and work out how to drive across the pacific, the public transport is an issue and United airlines are not included (smile)
