Is there anyway to make HD-DVR custom lists usable

I'm used to and spoiled by the DISH DVRs. Going to this Motorola box is driving me nuts in a couple of areas, but one in particular is driving me up the wall.

Is there any way to get the DVR to sticky a user channel list? Every time I hit the guide, it goes back to all channels, and if I then hit 'user', it defaults me back to the bottom of my user list. I have tried locks, but that doesn't change the defaults, it just goes there when I turn on and asks for the password.

Like any system, about 1/2 the channels are useless to me. Examples included the analog tier that is duplicated in the digital tier, the premiums, the shopping channels and the PPV. I would like to make this disappear completely.
