I own my own HD Digital cable box. How can I use this box with my cable service? Can I just plug it in and watch?

No, it needs to be activated by your cable company. The odds are they will not activate it unless you are in Canada. Just what kind of HD box do you have and where did you get it?

Except for one very specific model (integrated with an A/V receiver I believe) the cable companies generally won't activate a box you didn't lease from them. Why? Because it most likely either came from Canada or was stolen at some point.
