Dish to Comcast - only 2 tuners

I'm thinking of going back to Comcast, but I'm wondering about having only 2 tuners. Currently, with my 922, I record most of my prime time shows OTA which leaves the satellite tuners free for a cable channel or watching a basketball game. Can most shows be found for free in Comcast's On Demand if I wanted to watch a game and had to cancel a recording? What are the holes in Comcast's On Demand content?

comcasts on demand is the same as dish or direct, it has nothing to do with comcast. If nbc doesnt have the latest ep of your show available, then comcast cant deliver it via ondemand. When its available we have it up. But I wouldnt bank on using ondemand to free up a tuner if i were you.

Their two tuner limit is one thing people I work with complain about all the time and I would love to go to Comcast but for me I need at least 6 tuners.you can get more than one dvr but they will not talk to each other.
their working on a 4 tune in some test city's but I know one of the head in techs and he said it would could be a long time before its everywhere.
You could use a 4 tuner tvio but would have the tivo fee and right now no mrv options

WEll, you're partially wrong/right.

Comcast is so much better than satellite OnDemand. They have so much more to offer that the other two cannot. BUT, you're right, if the network doesn't have the show up yet, you can't watch it. But it will get up there.

To answer the OP. most major network shows are available OnDemand, even the major cable channels. You can watch a season that way. I do it alot. Try it out for 30 days and see if it's got what you want. If not, cancel it and pay nothing.

A lil bit of an old post but just saw it, I don't really agree with you when you say that comcast's on demand is better... Really itsnot... D* has the same content on demand as Comcast or anyone else really. Like was said, it isn't up to the provider what is offered in their on demand listings. The only drawback to satellite on demand is the reliance on how good your internet connection is today. But most people who have a broadband connection to hook their D* reciever to is fast enough to start streaming after just a few minutes. But in the same manner if your not working with a decent BB connection you will suffer with ondemand and especially HD or 1080P movies.

This is wrong......

Direct may have SOME of the same content, but it is very limited compared to the thousands of hours available on Comcast...all at the press of a button.

Cable just has much more capacity available to them.

I agree with Yaz. We have both Comcast and Fios TV (two different houses) and the OnDemand library is so much better, on both, than my neighbor's DirecTV or my mother in-law's Dish subscription.

This is why Tivo's and HTPC's with cable card tuners were invented. Superior machines that can be networked. And you will save money in the long run, if you can handle to high start-up costs.

HI we just went to Comcast from Dish and I am fearing this was a huge mistake. While the OnDemand offerings are MUCH better there are a bunch of holes. Hopefully I'll be able to find workarounds. Specifically, on Dish if you have a a conflict with 3 timers at the same time - the DVR is smart enought o look for a later viewing of an episode and will record that.

Not only will Comcast (newest motorola RNG200N) not look for the a replacement - it wont even let you set up a timer for the later airing. Anyone else have this issue?
