crt whine

Does the whine from crt's drive you nuts? It's been a while since I was around one with all the new LCD tv and pc monitors. I had forgot how aggravating it was. I can't even hardly enjoy a tv show on a CRT because of it. What audible frequency is that? 16khz or so? I remember years ago it was bad

I once knew the source of that sound, but for the life of me can't remember. Oddly, it was worse on TVs than PC monitors. Size?

Yep, though how loud it is seems to depend on the Television. I have an older Mitsubishi television that doesn't really make a noise but I had a relatively new walmart piece of crap that was so "loud" that you could hear the whine outside of the room. I replaced it with a good Sharp HDTV and now its blissfully quiet.

The source for that whine is the horizontal oscillator.
