actually all that channel 77 says is that Universal HD, Showtime and HDNet are "moving to new satellites", nothing about MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 or channels being deleted.

these are for those who are still holding on to their old tivos and at the same time are missing out on all the new HD channels. time to move on.

That is correct. They are trying to get everyone swapped over to mpeg 4 capable receivers.

speaking of moving on, my grandma still watches TV with rabbit ears only but still hasnt gotten her digital convertor box installed. but i guess thats common with the elderly, just cant adapt to new technology. I still got a VCR though and I actually used it the other day so I shouldnt talk.

My folks have certain things because I was able to convince them. if not who knows what they'd be watching and how. it took a bit to change them over to HD and some of the latest technologies. My next item which I will end up buying for them is a bluray player.

Someone in the know has posted on another site that those three MPEG2 channels will be shut down sometime in February and the remaining MPEG2 HD channel will be following shortly thereafter.

well like I've said before, I dont go by what some supposed "insider" said on a forum, I go by press releases and official published reports from industry sites like broadcastignandcable.com and multichannel.com.

I bet these supposed "insiders" are actually just D* system installers.

Hope you're not too disappointed then when the channel goes blank and then those sites say that today DirecTV shutdown those channels. Actually that source is a DirecTV employee that has provided info and helped folks with issues that an installer can't do. But you're allowed your opinion, just don't be mad when it happens and you say nobody told you.
