Comedy Central HD Launched / New Sportsman Channel

I cant wait for Comedy central HD, especially knowing the fact that they are putting in allot of effort for HD, unlike all the other Viacom networks

Apparently you haven't ever looked at Spike TV HD and Nick HD. Both are Viacom owned stations that show a lot of HD content. Especially Spike TV HD.

So what's currently being broadcast in HD over at Comedy Central?

We've already got confirmation the new season of South Park will be in HD.

What about the rest of their shows? (The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Reno 911, etc.)

here is some more info: At launch the network will have 200 hours of native HD programming, including nearly 30 episodes of South Park and the first two seasons of The Sarah Silverman Program. A number of feature films, stand up specials and Comedy Central Presents will also be in HD.

Initially , Comedy will be upconverting mainstays The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, with the expectation of the two programs going fully native HD in the future


In addition, the new seasons of Reno 911! and South Park and the new series Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire will be presented in HD.

This is good news. A lot of us knew Comedy Central HD was coming because of the uplink news and proof that was posted just days ago. The question was will the content be in HD? From the article it states that South Park and a few other shows will be in true HD which is very good news to hear. I was afraid that this would be another Viacom channel without any HD (like MTV, VH1, etc), but it won't be seeing as there will be HD. Now, if we could only get Travel HD and a few others that would be great. I am sure its coming soon.

I gather from this article that not much is is yet hd on Comedy Central. When they say upconvert I do believe they mean stretched.

It does however say they will have over 200 hours of true hi def.

I found this article online and it says that it will be launched later this month on Directv.

I don't think Comedy Central will stretch the non HD stuff. None of the other Viacom channels do. If it isn't in HD they keep it in 4:3 OAR.

Only 2 more channels left on my favs guide list in SD needed to be converted to HD, well 3 if you count 24/7 RSN's (STO-OH)
