    noob directv hd install question

    ADVERTS 1
Hi. Well, I'm going upgrade to HD soon (currently using a ota antenna), also directv customer for about 5 years or so. Was wondering if it is possible to mount a hd dish on the peak of a north facing wall (still trying to avoid roof), so the dish is above the roofline (my sd dish is in this area so LOS should be good, new dish will probably be same height). Is it possible to mount the monopoles back to the side of the house (north side).

Sorry for another newbie question, just trying to avoid appointments if its not possible. Hopefully, I explained it correctly Thanks

You MAY be able to mount your dish like you want to. It depends on how deep the eave is. Can you post pictures?

Depending of the physical layout, that's not a completely unusual install. Just make sure that you do have the monopoles installed!

Sure. My house is just like this picture, WITHOUT the vent. So basically, it would mount where the white rectangle is in this picture (no vent) . This wall is north facing. My concern is if the monopoles can also some how be installed downward mounted into the house while the dish is facing ssw (overlooking the peak of the roof) . Thanks so much for any help.

    Welcome to the site !

    Shouldn't be a problem ....
Make sure you hit at least 1 solid piece of wood, hopefully you can get 4 bolts into the wood. (for the dish footprint.
The monopoles should work ok as well.

Ok Thanks. I was a little unsure of this, since I havent seen monopoles mounted downward into the side of the house before. I was looking for a picture somewhere online to show them what I wanted.

The monopoles go around the mast, (post the dish sits on). So turning them to face the house should be no problem.

Great thanks folks for the quick help!

Also, will my old Tivo based phillips receiver (sd) still work with the new hd dish?

    Thanks

With the monopoles what you are looking to create is a very stable tripod type mount. Doesn't matter what direction they go, as long as they form a very solid base for the dish.

It will work for sd channels, but not for the new hd channels. You will need one of the H/HR series receivers/dvrs.
