    Unsub'ed Channels showing on Guide

    ADVERTS
When I select the guide option to show the channels that I receive and then hit Guide, a number of channels that I don't subscribe to are still listed.

For example, I do not subscribe to Showtime and the main Showtime channels are not listed. However channels "539 - SHO3HD" and "542 EXTRHD" are shown, with their full programming schedules.

Likewise there are several network channels, like 386 - ABCe, 387 - ABCw, 388 - FOXe, and so on, that are also listed.

If I attempt to tune to any of these channels, I get a "Channel not purchased. (721)" message.

I'm getting all of the channels that I subscribe to, and none that I don't sub to, so technically I don't have a problem. But it sure clutters up my Guide by having a few dozen channels listed that I cannot watch. And I occasionally see programming on them that I would like to view, but then I can't watch it, of course.

Of course, I see a lot of channels that I don't get when I set the Guide option to See all channels. But I expect that.

What gives on this? Why does "See channels that I get" list channels that I don't get?

DirecTV is still working on getting the Channels I Receive list working correctly.
What you need to do is use a Favorites list with only the channels you want to surf. And then select that list for display in the Guide.

Yes, well, I do that about 95% of the time. It would just be nice to be able to easily scan through all of the channels that I sub to. For once in a while, I like to browse through all of them.

Strikes me as kind of pathetically funny that they have been working on it and are still so far from getting it done correctly. I could see a spurious channel here and there, but dozens upon dozens?

I disagree with you Tom, it's not pathetically funny, it's PATHETIC! I don't think D* is working on it. I've never seen an attempted fix during the CE testing. I actually think they leave it that way hoping that you will see the programs listed on those channels you could get if you paid more, and thus want to order them. I can't see how they can write all the code they do, but not be able to fix the guide. Maybe they should call Dish and find out how they do it...

I am surprised at the original question. I was always sure Directv left the whole guide as a sales tool. Let the kids select something that is not purchased often enough and the pressure will start; "Pleeeeeeeeeeease can we have that one!"

Such as porn? Those channels/programs show up in the search/guide for me and I know I'd just be thrilled to have my kids browsing THOSE titles. (Even changing/restricting parental settings doesn't prevent it; but it will keep you from recording things like, "The Tudors" or "Big Love".) There is NO way to remove those channels/titles from search. And I, for one, would rather not have to page through six screen of "School Girl Sluts" or "Big Boobs 1-16" to find the program I'd ACTUALLY like to record. (And these show up even with a specially-made, as I use, favorites list that very much do NOT contain those channels.)

And the argument that the "Channels I Receive" doesn't work is a promotional tool is totally bogus. The distant networks (in the 80s and 380/90s) aren't even available for sale to most customers, yet appear in many, MANY people's "Channels I Receive" listings.

Frankly, they should just remove the option if they can't/won't make it work.

I agree. Is it really that hard to remove all the channels you dont sub to?

Also, why does D* need to show every RSN and alternate channel? Is it really that hard to remove all the RSN's in the guide except for the one you sub to?
