    hd channels on sd receiver

    ADVERTS 1
Hello, just got dtv with a hd receiver in the family room and sd in the bedroom. I get all channels in the bedroom except hdnet and hd theater. These are hd channels but I get all other hd channels,in sd of course. What could be the problem, thanks. Aren't all hd channels supposed to be able to be watched on the sd receiver?

SD recievers are NOT HD compatiable. you will need a HD reciever.

SD reciever only shows SD and no HD channels

HD reciever will show SD and HD channels.

    SD means Standard Digitial

    HD means High Definition.

SD will not broad cast High Def channels. you may THINK youre getting HD on SD but youre not.

    what model are your recievers?

    H20? D12?

The correct answer is that there is no sd version of the two channels you mentioned. That's why you can't get them on the sd receiver.

If he livesin a 72.5 market, he could have gotten a HD receiver in place of a sd receiver. Not sure if that Is the case here.

So what you are saying is that all the other channels are broadcast in both hd and sd,right? I thought that they were just down converted to 480i, but I guess not. Thanks for the answers.

I believe the channels your referring to are in the HD Extra package, which your getting apparently, that package consist of channels ONLY made in HD, so as mentioned above, there are No SD equivalent channel for you to watch.

There are not too many that are HD only, but those are a few of them.

HDNet(306,79) and HDTheater(281,76) are not in the HD Extra package. You get them with Choice or above packages as long as you have HD Access($10/month) on your account and an HD receiver...

You are right, but the real point of the thread is that hd only channels, like the two you mentioned, can't be received on sd equipment.

I could pick them up with dish in the bedroom and it was sd,was it maybe because of the dual tuner down converting them?

I suspect that you had an R22. The R22 was marketed as an SD DVR, but it can actually handle HD channels and display them appropriately on either an SDTV or an HDTV.

This is the danger of being mysterious about what receivers you have.
